RANT HERE thread

We're actually saying two different things. My apologies for being more of the lurker type and not the best with actually posting.

It looks like what I am trying to say appears to be not as great of an effect as it was once thought to be

"A new model developed by the scientists also confounds previous findings on the length of time re-exposure chickenpox boosts immunity to shingles. The effect was thought to last for up to 20 years, but results of the current modeling study show it only lasts for two. The new model is the first based on real immunological and virological data from individuals."

Here's the article I got the quote from, didn't have a chance to look for the actual journal
http://www.infectioncontroltoday.co...hingles-cases-but-mainly-in-young-adults.aspx

Edit: Found the actual journal, I believe it's a free article

did you know you use or activate your hip for pretty much everything?

I'm finding this out the hard way.

Yessss. And I'm so sorry you're going through this. It'll get better though.

Bull. I had "naturally occurring" chicken pox and got shingles. Shingles occurs in those who have had a previous infection with chicken pox. The virus has to have the opportunity to take up residence in the nerve endings then it "flares", usually at times of stress or if the body is immunosuppressed. It is highly unlikely for those vaccinated for chicken pox to develop shingles and there are research studies that have been conducted that prove there is no link between chicken box vaccination and development of shingles.
I never got chicken pox, but I was vaccinated. I was the weird kid that got German measles instead. My doc has said I'm highly unlikely to ever develop Shingles -- which is great since I have a lot of times of stress that could result in flare ups!

Apparently there was a labral tear, jam. Any words of advice?
Ouch. Did you get diagnosed with FAI? I've been having hip problems in the last year and I keep meaning to get it checked out. FAI is one of the things I'm worried it'll be.

I had chicken pox 3 times. (Also born before the vaccine was really a thing) I would take it if that meant no shingles ever. I was under the impression that it made my risk higher, but I also was under the impression that I had it 3 times because I moved and was exposed to 3 different strains. Never researched it though. (Bad scientist making assumptions)

Also willing to chat by pm about any of it. If anything positive can come of my experience, I would like that

Yeah, wouldn't wish Shingles on anyone. I'm not sure how many times my dad had chicken pox, but he came down with Shingles when he was diagnosed with something else that was terminal. I don't know if stress levels are linked to the severity of Shingles experienced, but holy crap. I don't think he moved much for like 3 weeks.

Side rant: I'm no longer sure that this is a back spasm and not a small kidney stone...but pain is my only symptom. I've been having some pretty intense pain for the last 3 weeks, but it has grown more constant and severe in the last few days. I should probably find a doc around here.

Today I picked up some bacon for the birthday surprise my bf and I made for my roomie this morning. They thought it'd be awesome to make the scrambled eggs with the bacon grease. It was super delicious but my body disagreed. Apparently after not eating bacon for at least 3 years my body has decided I'm no longer allowed to enjoy it. Here's to spending the rest of the night puking it up.

Don't let a little indigestion keep you from enjoying the best parts of life.

Tell your body that you're going to eat bacon, and you're going to enjoy it.

😉

But sickness on weekends is no fun. Hope you feel better tomorrow.

My house is a terrible mess and my laundry needs to be done and put away and I need to change the sheets and towels and aaaaggghhh I am such a housekeeping failure.
Me too. Rather than laundry I make a list of things I'd rather do. I don't mean to, but somehow I get the list of fun stuff done first.

Same. I have one clean pair of scrubs. Guess I should go do that. But my muscles feel like jello and I don't want to carry laundry down the steep basement stairs.

I have always been an advocate for my school but after this next week, I don't think I can ever speak well of it again. I don't think I can ever encourage a pre-vet student to apply or to accept a seat here. There are very good aspects to my school, but if you want anything beyond being a GP, you need to go elsewhere.

🙁 sorry to hear. Sucks when an entity you love really lets you down.

Took the dog "dock diving" for the 1st time today. seemed like a fun little competition at the boat show.Dog didn't see what the point of it was. Why jump off 2 foot tall drop when there is ramp back there to get in the water? Guess she has a point.
I come back off the dock for other to say to me, "You're problem is you don't correct her until after she's already done it. You let her run behind you and jump through to that ramp and then you say something. I woulda been after her before she had even done it."

:wtf:

Wait...did I ask for your advice?? No.

:boom:

I was just doing this for fun. I was entertained that she out smarted me and so was the crowd.
There's a 100 people watching. I'm not going to "get after her"!?
But I didn't say any of that, instead I said...

"You couldn't get Lassie to p*ss on paper."

Yea, that went over well.

You're making me nervous! I have a friend who's considering Western.

Jeez, that seemed to happen all of a sudden... Are people from Western having trouble getting residencies or something? Sorry, I know your heart is set on surgery.

My neighbor sent a trainer over to me and my dog at a festival a few years ago. I was working a rescue booth, and my dog was a crazy puppy. I felt bad for the trainer because I had to politely tell her that I was already working with another trainer. It was all extremely awkward.

Boy is it great when my first client of the day rants at me for 20 minutes about a surgery I had nothing to do with on a dog I've never seen before. 🙄 (She was promptly fired as a client immediately after that, this was the last straw in a long line of irate behaviour.)

I work with a graduate from your school who is going straight into a derm residency from a rotating internship...I don't think that's altogether true. But I'm sorry that you are having problems.

My local rescue that I've worked for for years is catching flack for, of all things, trying to find 7 purebred beagles stuck in the city shelter homes before they're set to be put to sleep next week. "You call yourself a no kill?" "How cruel to euthanize these beautiful puppies!!" "Bunch of liars!!"

I just want to individually invite every person that wants to complain but yet doesn't want to adopt/foster/volunteer to the facility and see if they can find the kennel space to put the dogs. 🙄

Have they tried locating the breeder? Or is this one of those cases of "non-mix but likely Joe and Susie put two dogs together and then didn't want to deal with the consequences?" sort of thing?

They're definitely full blood beagle. Honestly I don't think the breeder can be located. The dogs were wandering the side of the interstate. Around here it's common practice to retire hunting dogs, especially beagles, early and just release them to fend for themselves. We've had plenty of pedigree labs, pointers, etc as well.

That's...disappointing. Most of Lab breeders I know have it in their contract that if for any reason the puppy buyer can no longer take care of the dog, they are to be returned to them.

Granted, sometimes the owners for whatever reason don't and those dogs end up in the shelter but I'd say for the most part they do and the dog is found a new home by the breeder.

Yeah, it's just sad because these dogs have been neglected for a while. At least one is HW+, they were eating deer feed, and a volunteer got bit twice trying to catch one because they were so fearful.

At my shelter we call those people Barbaras. They always have a ton of opinions on how shelters should be run, like/share photos of the dogs on Facebook (can't forget asking for prayers for the dog as well!), and in general tend to be quite nasty to shelter workers. Oh, and of course they can never foster/adopt/volunteer, always for silly reasons. For some reason they tend to be named Barbara, hence the name.

 I've heard that too.

The rescue I volunteer for had to shut off our Facebook comments because of things like this. <sigh>
Sorry you guys are getting criticized for trying to help those dogs.

Midterms
In the next 2 weeks- 2 biochemistry exams, animal devo exam and animal devo lab practice, invert zoo lab practical, stem cell exam, 2 stem cell papers . Why?

That's awesome. Seriously, it is. It's a testament to their hard work. You should ask them how they felt at the end of their large animal block for third year. They should have graduated recently enough to be dealing with the same problems my class is. I still stand by what I said earlier. Other schools have a better support system and would better set you up to pursue something other than GP.

Why would you want to eat taco bell tho

Good vegetarian options. Frutistas are delicious. I worked there through high school and undergrad, so mild... nostalgia? Pretty much my go-to fast food place.
still don't get it because the food is nasty IMO. Husband loves it. I don't get it from him, either.

7 layers burritos and cheesy fiesta potatoes are my jam. The potatoes especially if you get them with added tomatoes and a side of jalapeno sauce (what usually comes on the quesadillas).

Some things I find fairly gross (like crunchwraps), but all in all I find it a very nommy place for fast food... especially because most other places I end up just eating straight fries, haha.
