RANT HERE thread

Thank you all for the well wishes. I got the e-mail telling me my grade did not make the cut (the associate dean wasn't in when I got there today; didn't set up a formal appointment last night cause of blonde moments). I'm making a formal appointment to talk about whether or not I should return to repeat first year. Got a lot to think about here, especially since I know I was so close to the cut off, but it's such a large chunk to add onto my debt.
I'm so sorry 🙁. Reach out if you want to talk or need someone to just vent to.

You people are really arguing over an $11 credit card chargeback?

Man. It must be nice to have nothing that really matters to worry about. 🙂

I don't see anyone worried. You don't see the humor in filing a chargeback for a mojito two months after you drank it because it reminded you of a bad date? Funny stuff. Still clearly fraud, but also funny.

This isn't really a rant but it's not really a rave either...so I mentioned that I was feeding a stray cat. Well I managed to catch him and take him to work with me. He's been neutered and we combo tested him and he got all his vaccines...turns out he's a huge sweetie and actually really likes people. I've been taking care of him even while he's been at the clinic and OMG I've fallen head over heels for this big guy. Which is where my problem lies...we have someone who is willing to foster him already which is awesome but I'm totally struggling. I want to keep him SO SO SO badly. But my female cat is tough and I have no idea if she would be okay with him. I'm feeling so down about it. I don't know what to do...

I know that feeling 🙁 I fall in love with kitties all the time, but my cat is a bit of a sociopath towards other animals. My all-time favorite shelter cat recently got adopted after many months, and it's definitely bittersweet. Very glad to hear he's doing well! I have a special soft spot for friendly strays.

What if I chargeback on a mojito so I can buy another mojito to forget the first mojito? Infinite mojitos!

@DVMDream Confirmed valley fever. Vet said she should be worse because she's been on prednisone for weeks but she's not. Vet said she may need to be on meds the rest of her life, and that she may develop a bone infection from it? Pretty bummed my foster is so sick 🙁
@Coopah ... I know you're moving to UC Davis very soon to begin veterinary medicine school; and (I'm assuming) your foster dog will be fostered by a new foster parent (i.e., by a foster parent where you currently live). Is that true? If yes, have you had a chance to meet your dog's (future) foster parent?

Pollen allergies. My drugs control me pretty well when I'm indoors, but I basically can't breath outside or in my house where i leave the windows open because no ac.

Also, I'm really just wanna go home for a bit and be with my family. My personal and professional lives have absolutely gone up in flames, and the stress is suffocating.

Oh hell no, I see lots of humor in it. It wouldn't ever occur to me to even do it.

But I see a few people getting all Moral Compass on it, too. Yanno, all that Righteous Indignation (harrumph, harrumph)!

(Which is also amusing.)

Like, whatever. I mean, if the worst moral failing this person has is $11 fraud ..... hell, they're better than most people.

Yes most likely, I'm hoping we'll be able to get her adopted out before we move but I think it's unlikely. She went to the vet again today because the vet honestly has never seen anything like this before, and wants to know if the lab sample got contaminated or something. End point is that it should be multiple weeks before we actually have an answer that is reliable. But if we do have to change her foster home we will be able to meet her new foster parents.

This is why you should come back to the south. No snow! It was 91 today. Simba and I sat outside, basking in the sun like a happy lizard. Pool tomorrow!
It's hot, humid and sunny and beautiful here, too, and I keep looking out the clinic window longingly. So jealous of pool time.

You may have answered this already, but does the shelter/foster organization you got her from fund the vet care? Just curious about how it works. How is she doing?

One of the major downsides to using public transportation is getting caught outside during inclement weather. Nothing punctuates your work day quite like getting drenched on your hike to your bus stop - a bus stop that has no shelter and is currently just a cordoned off part of the road that floods apparently. Standing in ankle deep street water is probably good for your health right? The one positive thing about rain is that the smokers take a break so at least everyone's lungs are better off.

I've been working in a reproductive bio lab for almost 2 years and I think I'm about to get a C in the basic repro class I took this semester. what kind of person am I

Yes they pay for everything even the food. We just have to provide the love and care. Unfortunately she's not doing great. She's fine medically, but she was recently returned to us from an adopter and her separation anxiety went through the roof. We can't leave her alone AT ALL because she'll destroy anything in sight. So we started crating her. She's used to being crated but even then she goes nuts crying at the top of her lungs. *Sigh* Anybody have any advice for behavioral problems?

My dad's girlfriend has been in the hospital for three days now with a raging MRSA infection in her nasal cavity as well as several sinuses. She is a heavy, HEAVY cigarette smoker and has since been told by the doctor that that can make many such infections worse and more aggressive. Among all of the other health detriments of cigarette smoke...

I'm just hoping that she uses this as a catalyst to start working towards quitting for good.

What about possible medication that is commonly used for separation anxiety cases? Not medical advice...

My dad has had multiple stents placed over the years, including in his aorta, and his doctors told him they wouldn't do it for him anymore and he needs to quit smoking.

He has not.

Yeah I spoke with the foster coordinator and suggested it, the foster has now had sufficient freak outs to start destroying the metal crate and somehow managed to pull a wire into the crate and chew it all to hell. Also, when we come home she started screaming, not crying, screaming, like she's on fire or something. We were gone for less than an hour.

My last foster did the exact same thing, despite being with him about 23 hours a day. Our foster org had a behaviour specialist that recommended some training to help alleviate that anxiety, though I'm not sure if you've tried this or if it'll work for your baby!

Dogs are really tuned to our schedules, so when they hear/see us putting on shoes, picking up the key, unlocking the door, etc., they know we're about to leave them. She recommended that I do my daily routine before leaving, leaving my apartment for a bit and locking the door, but returning after 10 minutes. And doing this process again, but returning after 3. And again, but returning after 7. And again, but returning after 21. Etc.

Just something to throw your pupper off, so they won't anticipate you leaving and be as anxious whenever you're getting ready for the day. That way, it won't feel like an eternity whenever you're gone!

My separation anxiety dog and I benefitted greatly from working with a vet and getting a good combination of meds (both quick acting and long term meds) that allowed him to be kenneled safely, while following all the recommendations in the amazing and succinct book "I'll Be Home Soon", whine also upgrading to a more durable kennel. It wasn't easy but we came a long way. Definitely sending positive vibes your way.

Wow! That must be painful although sometimes patients have MRSA and unaware of it. When you have MRSA as a patient it follows you for two years at some hospitals. If ever she is readmitted she will be on contact precaution. Quitting is a good idea.

This lady just ask me for my pee at the doctor's office. She claims she smokes weed and need it for drug screening. I find this so dishonest and she sure has a nerve to approach me. Why do people do this? I guess this is the new world we are living in.

My dad has a friend who had a nasty black lung removed something like 15 years ago. Still smokes like a chimney. It's incredible!

Wow. She must be pretty desperate. But yeah, don't do that.

You should have replied, "sure, I'm a heroin addict and I just did some coke in the bathroom, but I don't smoke pot, so if that will help you?"

From what I hear, you can get a pretty penny selling your urine. I might be wrong, but my friend says she used to make a considerable amount off it!

Definitely not condoning drug use/ selling your urine. It's a messed up world we live in.

To be honest, that's the world we've always lived in. We just notice ****ty people more because we have better ways to communicate, for example, this forum.

My dad just messaged me to let me know he has a new girlfriend that is 2 years younger than me for a few reasons:

1. To show off

2. To get my approval

3. To make me hate his current wife

There is so much wrong with this conversation.

You lead a much too interesting life, stop hogging all the weird

My best vet school classmate friend's dog was suddenly euthanized yesterday due to likely ruptured splenic mass. It was so sudden and out of nowhere and my friend is just devastated. She was originally driving out today with just her and her dog to move across the country for her internship that starts in a week. Ugh I hate cancer so much. I just wish I knew how to help her

Just had multiple knocks on my door at 11pm. I live in a sketchy neighborhood, so as I went to answer (I don't have a peep hole) I had 911 dialed and ready. Much to my surprise, it was an officer wanting to know if I had heard any gun shots recently. Umm no I say. He tells me they had multiple calls for shots fired on our street, and that they've found 7 shell casings. I look past him and see several cars with lights on and officers knocking on doors up and down the street, and crime scene markers at the foot of my driveway. Great. As if I needed any more stress in my life, now on top of everything else, I should move. I've always known this area was sketchy (I'm even fairly certain the house sort of across the street is a meth house), but nothing likely a little reality check with confirmation.

@jmo1012 ... hope you start looking for a new home, somewhere peaceful and secure. Sending good thoughts to you.

I've been trying to one by one identify all the plants in my perennial gardens.
So far I have giant perennial beds filled with mugwort, goutweed, and giant ragweed with very few actual perennial flowers. No wonder my allergies are off the chart bad this year. I'm not even sure I can get close enough to them to yank them out without dying. The mugwort gave me an awful rash already this year. FML.

Had a patient arrest on the table today. It was an ASA 4, and my suspected reason for its death was not preventable and had nothing to do with what I was doing or the other doctor doing the procedure was doing, but it obviously still sucks.

ragweed can die in a fiery pit of hell.
