Legit could have died today. I was driving to the gym with my dog in the car to drop him off for boarding. Briefly looked away from the road, so totally my fault, and I'm usually pretty good but crap happens. Looked up and was close to the shoulder,overcorrected, swerved, overcorrected the swerve and spun around backwards on the highway. I was literally looking into the car behind me. Somehow managed to correct that and end up facing the right direction and get to the shoulder without hitting a median or anyone. I'm mainly super pissed that I almost hurt/killed my dog.

This is really scary! Glad you're okay. I had something similar happen a few years ago but it was because I had hit a patch of black ice when turning onto a major road in my town. I was very lucky there were no other cars on the road at the time or I likely would have caused a serious wreck and probably been seriously hurt.

Thanks guys. I definitely got super lucky and I still haven't really processed that it happened cause it was so quick and felt so slow at the same time. Weather played a tiny role in that it was raining and I'm actually due for new tires so my tread and traction aren't what they should be. Definitely just thankful that we're and everyone who was around me is okay.

Glad you and your dog are OK!
 
I just use the 1999-2012 old school style because it's the only one that doesn't burn my retinas and I also don't like the rounded avatars of the new default styles. The dark/night styles are okay, but something about the contrast feels off and I cannot stare at white on black for too long or everything, including the text, becomes blurry to me.

Not so much a rant but just openly grieving...my dog died today, we had just hit one year together. We all knew sudden death was very likely to be what happened to her, but I had no idea today was the day. Fine, then dead within minutes. It happened literally in our cardiology service though and I was with her until the end, so she had the best chances of recovery possible and I was there for her until they started CPR (I had to get out, I got super light headed). They tried everything short of opening her chest. I miss her so much.

Dude it was awful. If you can imagine the most dramatic TV CPR scene you've watched, this was the veterinary version. People full speed running to and from ER/ICU, yelling 'CLEAR' with the defib, me crying/barely able to breath in the hallway and people staring wondering what the hell was going on.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I guess the first night is probably the hardest? I've lost pets before but never a dog, an animal that is constantly right next to you. I missed her sleeping under the covers in the bend of my knee last night.

What's funny is I literally just saw this and sent it to my mom this morning because she also loves Hallmark movies.
 
I had cancer as a kid and now I get MRIs q3years. My surgery, treatment, and follow-up have always been in Boston, and I have always just flown in for my MRIs over school breaks.
Now though, I'm living and working in LA and it's hard to get time off to fly across the country, so I've been trying to get a referral to an oncologist in LA for my next MRI. It's been about a month since I asked for the referral, and I keep calling, like at least once a week, to get an update on my referral, and I keep being told "someone will call you back" and nobody calls me back.
This appointment is increasingly time sensitive because I'm 25 years old, turning 26 in January, and I lose health insurance on Feb 1st, so I need to get this MRI before that happens. But MRI appointments book up FAST and EARLY.

I FINALLY got a call back today from Boston. They said that my dr contacted a colleague in LA about my referral, but they haven't heard back from LA, so they just gave me his name so that I could contact his office directly.
I call LA onc's office, they tell me that I can't make an appointment without a referral. I tell them that they should have a referral from my ped onc in boston. They don't. They tell me to tell Boston to send the referral and then I will be able to make an appointment. Now it's past 5pm in Boston and nobody is there.

So I'm just laying in my bed crying because I have no idea WTF i'm doing and I was SO HAPPY to finally get a name and now I'm back at square one and I'm very quickly running out of time to make this ****ing appointment.
