no offense to the neurologists out there but i literally despise learning about the nervous system OMG
also felt completely clueless in anatomy lab today, don’t ask me shi about any ganglions

no cuz why am i just looking at spaghetti. also some of our specimen are just not well dissected for the nerves so it gets frustrating.
also cardio is so hard for me. its ok guys its not like the heart is important or anything

no fr is it an artery? nerve? connective tissue? who knows! i spent a solid 30 minutes isolating what i thought were nerves, then the prof comes over and rips them off (they were just connective tissue)

It was previously dissected out for us, but we still had to go through and identify everything. We’d get a quick demo, and then get told to find everything ourselves.

wow yea our dissection isn’t even guided, we’re given a cadaver and a dissection book and thrown to figure it out ourselves 😭 the profs are circulating to answer questions, but i really wish they were doing it alongside us bc 95% of the time we’re all like wtf are we looking at

oh whoops I feel bad for complaining— our stuff has been dissected for us. the arteries have red latex and the veins have blue. the only reason i say ours are poorly dissected is that my group and i will be losing our mind trying to find something and when we ask a prof, they’re like “hmm yeah, you have a bad one”. idk how long they keep things in circulation but not everyone is gentle with them so things just get cut and mangled. genuinely i cannot understand the axillary nerve bc everytime i look at one, it’s a jumbled and cut up mess.

how do you get practice after hours for anatomy then? do you keep your own dissections somewhere at the lab? i love the way our after hours is set up because they leave all these different tubs out and they are labeled by what they are intended to be used for. so we have all kinds of thoraxes that are intended for different things. we have different sets of thoracic limbs for studying brachial vs antebrachial muscles, etc. perhaps i am spoiled lol. we also have plastinated specimen that are really cool to look at, so they leave those out for us too.

next week, we start to do our own dissections though!!

next week, we start to do our own dissections though!!

we have access to our cadavers + other people’s cadavers 24/7 so we can always go into the lab after hours and take whichever one out to practice. as long as we don’t cut anything on other people’s cadavers. the profs use everyones cadavers for practical exams so we have to get used to looking at other people’s dogs (my group has a beagle, other groups have giant bully mixes, huskies etc). we do have plastinated species too to look at

Plus we only focus on what the surgeons at my school determine are important to know. So knowing all the little details of branches of veins and arteries unless they are massive or directly supply something we didn’t care for.

Im so sick of my job. Can’t imagine being here another year (can’t believe I’ve even made it to 1 year tbh when i figured out i didnt like the job 2 weeks in)

But feeling trapped because of the economy. It’s decent pay (research associate) but mind numbingly boring, I dislike the people I work for and with and do not care for the work itself.

I’d rather work as a technician in a clinic, as it would serve me better for the future and give me more vet hours since mine are a little low and mainly research focused. I was actually hired at my dream clinic earlier this year, but ultimately had to turn it down because $19/hr for a 40+ min commute aint it when i’m currently making 55k in half the commute time.

I’m just feeling stuck and if I don’t get into vet school this cycle idk what im gonna do lol cause i hateeee it here
