RANT HERE thread

Nooo 🙁 Maybe time for a home camera (if feasible/if you don't have one already) to make sure they're not having more when you're not around? (thoughts from another pet parent brain lol)
Definitely considering it, the spouse just worries about the ability to secure and keep private the data. We've had zero signs she's ever had a previous episode when we weren't here, but I suppose it's always a possibility.
Me and my damn bird. First time i chalked it up to me being over dramatic (since i didnt observe the actual seizure). Second time got a video and was confirmed seizure by my vet. Just operating on the assumption that seizures are a part of his life now, since i saw the after effects 2 days in a row, then another suspected one a few weeks later, so now he is on anticonvulsants 🙃
Maybe we'll get lucky and she'll be one of those creatures that seizes once every blue moon and she never needs any medication :xf:
I’m sorry but also “everyone gets one free seizure” 😭😂
The doctor I used to work with described it as we all have a threshold for having a seizure. Once in a while the stars align and a perfect storm occurs where a creature has a single seizure because that threshold was perfectly met. Hence the term "one free seizure" 😂

Vet brain says everyone gets one free seizure
this is so true though
pre-vets…please remember your digital footprint..just saw a not-so-great video and i’m just like:

Excuse Me What GIF
I am really glad I'm not on pre-vet tok (I'm assuming you saw something on tiktok) lol. I've veered into pre-vet instagram a few times and too many times I see a pre-vet adjacent hashtag but the reel is a thirst trap, a sponsored ad (or an attempt to get a company to notice and pay you), or someone saying something really misleading or flat out wrong about vets/vet med

Finally getting around to writing my scholarship essays, but why on earth do they only give us 1000 characters (including spaces)??? Having less to write is not always good. I'm struggling to get my point across with so few words 😭

It is definitely concerning to me how many pre-vets and vet students are naive about the impact of their digital footprint. I only engage with any remotely controversial discussion on accounts where no personal info such as name, face is attached, like on Reddit or here (I do think if someone knew me well IRL they would know me from my posts here, but I never say anything I wouldn't openly stand by in person). On stuff like Instagram or Facebook (I don't have Ticktok) where my name and face is attached, I don't ever post or engage with anything political or provocative and I keep the personal life sharing to a minimum. I have seen too many consequences of well-intentioned or spontaneous online posting bite veterinary professionals in the rear, and I'm curious how this will evolve as upcoming generations only become further open and engaged online.

it's BAD. Never underestimate these algorithms, y'all. my mom has sent me numerous tiktoks of my classmates that show up on her feed-- MY MOTHER. guys it's just not worth it.

i agree. i’m not even talking about political discussions, i’m talking about posting photos of patients in surgery with identifying information on the collar. i’ve seen some other concerning things from students actively in the application process.

i think sharing your journey in a transparent but appropriate way is important and can help so many future applicants. it can also help you make connections and build community. i’ve met so many other students through tiktok, IG and SDN. hell, @katiemcat, @soupshark and I talk almost every day and we are on totally opposite sides of the country.

BUT YOU NEED TO TAKE CAUTION !! and use critical thinking skills to evaluate if what you post is appropriate!!

edit: removed one part because i realized it may not have been productive to the conversation

i know that you know that i know this all too well teehee

hey and while we are on the soapbox, i know we are all trying to hustle to pay for this stuff but ... be critical about these weird "partnerships", "ads", hell, tik tok shop even. i am so sorry but it cannot be worth selling your morality to sling garbage on tik tok shop. my friends have jobs as reps through the school and that's fine man, but maybe a lil more discretion for some of this other stuff??

tbf: i’ve seen more non-vet med folks promote vet med products (like tubes of activated charcoal to avoid a “$2000 vet bill”, or “magical supplements” that get rid of cancerous tumors)

i’ve seen people promote travel abroad experiences, scrubs (IF YOU GET A SCRUB PARTNERSHIP- YOU ARE SETTTT FOR LIFEEE !!!), free shoes, free trips to conferences and conventions in exchange for content (another slay !!). but more that than the tiktok shop slop haha

Currently trying to hold off a panic attack worrying about the winter weather scheduled to hit this weekend 🥶

My anxiety is through the roof after living through it in 2021. If i lose power, my animals are ****ed. I have a small generator that I plan on using for my saltwater tank in increments to turn their heat on if needed and have battery powered air stones for oxygen. If it comes to it, I plan on bundling the birds in their travel cages with me under blankets where they will be absolutely miserable but hopefully warm enough. Bettas unfortunately will have to fend for themselves.

In 2021 my apartment miraculously kept power, but i lived at the zoo at which i worked for a full week with minimal power there and it was quite traumatizing tbh

All good vibes that i do not lose power please 🙏🏻

Not that I think I am remotely interesting/charismatic enough to get a decent social media following if I wanted to be a vetfluencer, but sometimes I wish I could post more about what I do for reasons like this lol. I want my freebies and passive-ish income

Yea we've had issues with social media and memes. Hospital policy is no photos and videos, but some departments are more lax than others. I just act with 100% caution and never open my camera app while I'm on campus.

I don't think pre-vets and even lower classmen vet students necessarily realize that even though our patients are animals, their health info is protected and confidential. There is a human behind every patient, so the patient's health info is private for only the owner and whoever they choose to share that info with. You wouldn't want your therapist airing out your dirty laundry on tiktok or your doctor telling the world about your butt problem... same applies.

Or also, just like, ****ting on schools that rejected you or something lol. That will surely get you in elsewhere...

Also, rotation anxiety is no joke. Being thrown off routine and into a completely different environment than you were in for the past 16 weeks is hard on my sad brain. Currently sitting here pecking at a piece of toast to try and get *something* into my body.

I'm on equine med and surgery rn and it's great since I'm an equine person. I just don't adjust well to a change in routine and we had a superrrr long day yesterday but luckily we got to leave early today so I'm feeling a little better.

Yeahhhh I definitely get that. I like my routines and don’t like change either. Glad you’re feeling a bit better and got to leave early today!!!!! Do you have Madsen doing stuff with you guys still?

3 lectures into pharmacology and i have a newfound respect for pharmacists this shi is not for the weak
I am smart. I am in vet school. I’m going to be a doctor.

I fear pharmacology and pharmacists. More deeply than I ever have before.

Yesss she's so amazing. I love Dr. Madsen!

I wish I had more patience for high-maintenance individuals. I genuinely mean that. I feel like I must come off super cold/heartless, but I also just cannot pick up the 5th phone call from you in a day because you can't find your way out of a paper bag.

People who say there are no stupid questions are lying. There definitely are stupid questions
Heavy on this today lol

Lol if any of you ever found my reddit (we talked about it in WW at one point), a bot got into my account, posted ~*explicit*~ content, and now my account is banned.

So if you saw me posting nonsense it wasn't me lol.

:dead:

And because I cannot just sit with this on my own:

ICE shot a 37-year-old white male observer today.

And it’s come out they guy they short LAST WEEK wasn’t even the guy they thought he was.

So if I’m your only source of news or if you’re uncomfortable that this is part of my rant, please, pay attention to what’s going on in Minnesota. This is my life as a vet student right now. It’s going to be coming to a city near you soon.

I came across the footage a bit ago during my scrolling (it is not graphic for anyone who is hesitant to scroll social media due to this). I hope the person in the pink/red coat posts their angle soon because from the angle I saw, this guy was face down on the ground and then was all of a sudden being shot by multiple people. I don't even know how he would have actually been able to reach for the firearm he supposedly was carrying (with a permit to do so) when you're being literally beat up and hit with objects by like 10 different people while on the ground.

It is not graphic you are correct however I caution that it is upsetting and disturbing (not that you’re wrong, PP9, just as a warning to others). At one point it appears they’re pistol whipping him.

One local news source is reporting he’s a nurse with an active license and a degree from UMN. The woman in pink has confirmed to be detained.

ETA to add accurate info: woman in pink was able to leave the scene and sign a legal witness affidavit, in which she expressed extreme fear as ICE is apparently “looking for her” and she feels unsafe going home.

Yes 100%, still disturbing. My point of reference is the the Charlie Kirk video I guess, which was the first thing I saw on my TT scrolling that afternoon...some things just shouldn't be on the internet.

Ugh I was worried when she didn't immediately bolt once he was shot. Now we can only hope that she somehow sent that video to someone or did something with it before they got a hold of her phone. From the angle in the current available video, I really don't see him reaching for a gun but it's also a bit hard to see everything happening.

she did, just saw it. hands and knees on the ground, 0 firearm in sight. he had a legal concealed carry permit but did not draw his firearm.

it’s already being spun as self defense.

right because self defense is continuing to fire after the victim is laying face up on the ground, unresponsive.

🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Her angle is available now. And it’s horrifying.

The two minutes after the shooting where she's obviously crying and freaking out but keeping the camera on them going "what the ****" and "he was only helping" is going to haunt me for a long time.

kash patel just went on fox news and stated that “you dont get to attack law enforcement in this country without repercussions”

……

kyle rittenhouse.

that’s all.

this is so far out of hand.

Feeling very helpless over here. I am so disgusted and disheartened. Lots of words from politicians but we need action to keep our people safe </3.
that’s how they want you to feel. call and email your reps, share resources for people on your social media- you never know who in your circle may be further impacted. donate and fundraise if you can. you make a huge impact directly in your community.
