Not Dr. Emily King deciding to shoot a TV show
The Rock Eye Roll GIF by WWE

I honestly am not a fan of vet shows in general as none of them have every properly conveyed vet med to begin with.

We need a show where there's an all hands meeting where the regional manager of the corporation who had zero vet med experience before this position tells clinics they aren't making enough money when rads cost $600 with no option to not send out 🙄. Get into the nitty gritty of EBIDTA being 20% in a corp practice but 12% in a private practice. But that's not sexy, so that will never be done.

One of my best friends from college has a vet TV show in Australia, featuring the pet ambulance service he started with his partner.

As a kid I watched the heck out of Emergency Vets and I fangirled quietly when I sat behind Kevin Fitzgerald at a conference in 2016. But now as an adult I don’t want more “work” in my downtime. My grandparents were very sad when I told them my feelings on Dr. Pol many years ago, because they loved the show…

Can I confess to a cardinal sin?

I watched the heck out of Dr. Jeff when I was in college. It's part of why I revisited the idea of vet school (clearly actually getting experience was the deciding factor).

OKAY LET ME HAVE IT I DESERVE IT

Well my flabber has been gasted tonight. got an emergency call from a non client, like never seen the horse or client, our practice hasnt done any lameness work at that farm for years and tonights call was essentially for a second opinion. the horse has a laceration and when they called their regular vet practice, which is a LARGE mixed animal practice in the area, they got told “its fine it’ll heal on its own” like… WHAT? the horse was lame, the owner saw it cut itself on a sharp object and probs needs a tetnus booster, and YES, it actually could use some stitches, there is a full thickness flap on the side of the metatarus. The owner really felt it needed to be seen, (valid) and I told her to call them back and tell them you require emergency services because the ideal situation for it to heal is with STITCHES, thats the recomendation and they could quote me on that to the other practice. like, WTF?? cover your own emergencies people. and honestly, even if I dont think its a life or death situation like, hold yourself to an acceptable standard of care and tbh even if it really was nothing, if the owner really needs a visit so they can sleep at night just ****ing go, or at least make a plan with them over the phone for it to be seen tomorrow morning, not just saying no??? thats what oncall is for and what you get paid for. end rant.

Their practice is interesting to transfer to. They moved to the mountains and my guess is because they wanted to limit their exposure. Much harder to get to where they are now.

For everyone who is thinking of jumping ship, I think we're approaching the great private equity dumping of 2026. NVA and VCA are both closing quite a few locations in my area, including two big name VCA locations south of me. If you're thinking about jumping ship, consider who owns your clinic cause it may be a very good idea because you may be losing your clinic soon, or it may be a very bad idea because there's a lot of competition about to hit the streets

PS: when i was younger i used to watch this vet that went to farms and other settings in a helicopter to help out large animals. I dont remember the name of the show/doctor, but man i really thought i would be him one day. ill stay w my small animals for now

I also used to think about being an archaeologist digging mummies in egypt so i really did not know what the future held for me

I’m so mad right now. I’m missing out on the next letter grade by 1 point.

I should be happy celebrating that I’m done with classes and going into clinics. But I’m just staring at my GPA so disappointed because MSU screwed us over even when I worked my butt off.

Maybe I can pull it up a little in clinics, but it’s like am I even competitive for an internship after school now?

If you really want to talk about it, feel free to DM me (unless you want to post your GPA for the masses lol). I had no issues matching to my first choice rotating (which was a large, well established PP program) with a UIUC GPA which I guarantee is far worse than yours. Pretty sure it was a like a 2.6ish with a rank somewhere in the last third of the class, which for UofI, is a fairly even mix of B's and C's. So it really just depends on the programs you choose for the most part.

It’s honestly not that bad. It’s a 3.4 right now, plus I plan to apply mainly rotating equine at both academic and private practice. I don’t know my rank likely in the middle 50%.

I know less about equine but I wouldn't worry too much! Although missing a cutoff by 1 point is brutal, I've been there multiple times. But here's to being done with the worst part of vet school!
