Without my DAT which I take in August how competetive would you say I am:
University: ASU
Major: life sciences
Core GPA: 3.8
Science GPA: 3.63
Work full time as ER tech for the last 2 years
30 hours of shadowing maxillofacial surgeon
100 hours of shadowing family practice dentist
Top choice schools: UT san antonio, NYU, UCSF,UCLA, UNLV

If you do decent on the DAT, 18,19,20ish, you'll likely have a very good shot at NYU and UNLV, but you might need above 20 to be competitive for UCSF or UCLA. And if you're not a Texas Resident, I don't think you're competitive at all for UT - but thems the breaks for the Texas schools.

I am hoping for an awesome score on DAT so maybe theres a slight chance of getting into UT but I know how hard it is like you said, the surgeon I shadowed is a graduate of UT as well so maybe that will give me a little advantage :xf:

GPA = competitive
DAT = unknown (score 19+ AA and nothing below 17 and you should get in somewhere)

I know your post is all about getting a pre-DAT opinion, but the DAT will tell the story in the end. A 17 or lower will probably hurt you, an 18 or 19 would keep you about the same (fairly above average), and a 20+ will all but seal things up for you.

FYI, Texas loves their own so I would say a shot at any Texas school is low, especially San Antonio.

Also, make sure your volunteer work is solid... not just paid job type stuff.

For UCSF and UCLA, you should get at least 22 on all 3 parts of the DAT

20 and 21 won't cut it

look at pre dents

I beg to differ. hehe.

I think his GPA is high enough that his DAT doesn't need to be in the 20s for UCSF, UCLA YES.

How stable will a 3 legged table be when the length of the 4th is unknown?

What is a "core GPA"...that doesn't count.

What's your overall GPA? If it's like a 3.6..then your:

Sci GPA 3.6, Overall 3.6

Slightly...competitive for UCSF, UCLA...more like avg.

Nice lol. Except I haven't heard of many 3 legged tables that have 4 legs. 😉

Here's a DAT question for you:

A table with 3 legs and a 4th leg missing would be called:

1. a 4 legged table
2. a 2 legged table
3. a 3 legged table
4. an invalid table
5. all of the above
6. none of the above
7. it is not a table

I know your anxiety compels you to ask these hypothetical questions, but without your DAT, nothing else even matters.
So to answer Doc's question, your resume is invalid without your DAT

UT San Antonio opens up their application via TMDSAS on May 3rd. August will be considered pretty late. Give them a call though.

Have fun with this: admissions consideration:
Management Model Score: (total points possible = 1000)
[science GPA x DAT-A Score/30 x 4 + Overall GPA] x 50 = Overall Score
