It is sad to hear that people are having bad experiences with residencies or are at places that don't fit their needs. It would be very helpful to start a thread that lists the residency program, the TRUE pros and cons of the program, and a little about the working environment. This would help people find programs that fit them best. For me personally, I am especially interested in programs in the Atlanta metro area!! Any information provided will help someone out there.

I doubt people are going to post that sort of info on a public forum.

It has been done for medical students on this site. So it would be great to hear about programs that are out of the area from where you went to school. It is really hard to gauge a program based on the internet and your tour during the interview. Why wait till the interview to find out that you are not a good fit. What may be a CON to you, could be a PRO for someone else?

That's dandy for them; however, I would never post that info here and I don't think the other active members who have completed a residency will either. If you don't get responses, that is why.

I agree with spacecowgirl. I hated my residency, but no way in hell am I posting the name of that program here. One, people would figure out who I am pretty quickly and I'd ruin my reputation. Two, as far as I know that hospital no longer has a residency, so complaining about it is pointless.

I am pretty sure I know who at least one person on this forum is based on a few posts (not that it matters, just pointing it out), so adding in the name of a program would do the same for plenty of others. Professors/preceptors have been telling us for years, and I'm starting to believe it: pharmacy is a SMALL world. However, a "con" about a program could be another person's "pro"... There is probably a way to go about it in a professional way.

You guys have absolutely no idea how small of a world pharmacy really is. Theres one person on this forum that i know just from the information shes posted here. I know her name, place of work, CV, etc. its pretty wild and scary what you guys are willing to give away. Hint hint: you better watch out what you say. Say the wrong thing and you WILL get blackballed by people on this forum and in the working world.

Yep, one person on SDN found out who I am through my posts, and he doesn't even go to my school (and I never gave my name away). I don't post my CV on SDN though, but I would never trash any residency programs here.

People say pharmacy is a small world, but quantify. For instance, is it just pharmacists in certain sectors, e.g. retail, hospital, that know each other? Is it just in certain areas, like county level, or is it regional, within a state? From my experience there isn't much sociailzing in pharmacy. Where do they congregate for these things and to what end?

Here is an example of what a small world pharmacy is.

I went to UNM and then did residencies in the midatlantic and Midwest. I now work in California.

My coworker here in CA was a PGY-2 at a hospital where one of our posters was a intern, in NY.

That same intern went on to do PGY-1 at the same hospital that two of my PGY-2 coresidents did. And is now doing a fellowship at the same place where someone who was a PGY1 when I was a pgy2 took their first job, in the south.

That's just the connections between me and one kid on SDN who went to school on opposite sides of the country. I have other examples almost as dramatic. Obviously the world is smaller in academia or within specific specialties, but you never know who has worked with who.

They always say that pharmacy is one small world. I guess there is credence to that..
