RAVE HERE thread

Ok not so vet related but got chosen to go on the animal science faculty led trip to Switzerland this summer and then may get to stay and work with the professor doing dairy research after the trip.

Grades are good and I’m even doing well in Physics 2. Registration is next week and just hoping I can get in the classes I need.

I’m going to run for president of my fraternity so that will give me more leadership. I’m loving undergrad and trying to have fun so I won’t be stressed when vet school starts!

Love those puppy pictures!

Just finished a job interview for an English teaching position over in China or Taiwan. Considering that I was asked for a start date and which location I would like the most, I'm thinking that it's pretty likely that I am at least being very seriously considered.

She told me that there are spots in Beijing and a few other cities in Mainland that would have me starting as early as January-February. 😱 Seems really fast to me, but she assured that it is very possible to get the work visa and other logistics worked out by then if that's what I want to do. I'm just not sure if I want to move over there that quickly. For Taiwan, it would be later in the year.

Either way, while I haven't been "confirmed" yet, it's sounding pretty likely that they want me and I'm super excited to even get to this stage. I love learning languages and cultures (especially those of East Asia), and this was my original career plan before the vet school detour happened. It's funny how my life came around full circle, I'spose. 🙂
I hope you hear good news soon! 😀

Just finished a job interview for an English teaching position over in China or Taiwan. I was really, really nervous, but I actually feel like it went well! Considering that I was asked for a start date and which location I would like the most, I'm thinking that it's pretty likely that I am at least being very seriously considered.

She told me that there are spots in Beijing and a few other cities in Mainland that would have me starting as early as January-February. 😱 Seems really fast to me, but she assured me that it is quite possible to get the work visa and other logistics worked out by then if that's what I want to do. I'm just not sure if I want to move over there that quickly. For Taiwan, which would be my preferred assignment, it would be later in the year.

Either way, while I haven't been "confirmed" yet, it's sounding like they want me; they've even offered to reimburse me for my TEFL certification course. I love studying languages and cultures, and this was actually ny original career aspration before the vet school detour happened. It's funny how life came around full circle, I guess. Trying to keep my expectations a little tempered in case it doesn't work out, but I'm still excited to have even made it this far, especially with how this entire year has gone for me.

I'm just hoping that I can become decently proficient in Mandarin in the meantime; it's been a while since my last few actual classes, but I've picked the study back up on my own and it's... a work in progress. 🙂

Congratulations! Let us know where you end up!

Brief update on this: I've received a job offer in Huilongguan area of Beijing, which is awesome. I havent made a concrete decision on it yet, for a few reasons. The biggest roadblock is that it starts in early February and I have, like, less than zero money right now (I am putting all bills on credit cards at the moment); I was supposed to start a job at the local hospital two weeks ago, but my orientation keeps getting delayed for reasons outside of my control that I could rant about but won't. I've got an interview for another part-time job this week that will hopefully tide me over, especially once I finally start the hospital position.

They've been kind enough to offer me reimbursement and discounts for various things, and they will cover housing to an extent, but even then I am worried that I simply won't have the money to cover all of my start-up costs. And given my recent mental health crises, I don't know know if I'll even be ready mentally/emotionally to move over so soon.

I'm sure it will work out; things always seem to in some way. I just don't want to let an opportunity like this pass just because I'm broke right now.

...well, so much for "brief". Lol.
I'm really hoping it will work out! February sounds really close but you have the entirety of three months to get things sorted, if that's what you choose to do, and I'm crossing my fingers that things pull together perfectly for you in that time!

Y’all... currently fostering two shelter pups after having adult dogs for a decade and I have learned several things:

Shark teeth hurt.
Puppies pee sooooo much more than you can imagine.
My older dog is getting grumpy in his senior years.
Mandatory naps are a good thing.

I’m also wondering what the rate of failure for fostering is... cause holy crap these guys are sweet. *heart eyes*

We were definitely playing it over lunch in the rounds room. You can even host a game and play against up to 7 other people so my fourth year and I were battling

New house of cards is hereeeeeeee

Adenine and I have an appointment tomorrow where we’re finally going to get her Trazadone for her destructive separation anxiety (we’ve tried behavioral modification, KONG, music, and vigorous exercise and it has not made a lick of difference). So I’m in behavior this semester and have been talking immensely with our behaviorist, and we agreed on the decision- especially after she ripped up the carpet under her kennel. I’m just worried she’s going to rip her canines on the bars of the crate.

We had been waiting to get the vet records from the foster dad for several weeks, but Friday I finally snapped and went off, and funny enough within 20 minutes I got her records! So I’m happy to get that on board, and then we can continue with behavioral modification!

Oh my god you guys, my dog ate rat poison while I was 3 hours away at school. That's the fastest highway trip I've made in quite a while (and in the dark, too)! The rave is that she's okay, but we do have to figure out why her alk phos is over 10,000 because an anticoagulant shouldn't do that....

I'm glad she's okay!

Glad she is ok! Was that the only elevated liver enzyme?

Her ALT is about 200, so elevated but not nearly as much as the alk phos. The analyzer could at least read the ALT. To get the alk phos they had to do serial dilutions until they got a result and then back-calculate it. I have several questions about Raodi's lab results that I'm going to be bugging my favourite clinical pathologist about when she's back from ACVP on Tuesday.

That's so cute! Congrats. I'm 100% surprised that your yellow lab was so dainty with it...that's so un-Lab-like.
I was going to say, you'd need slow motion replay to determine the color of that cake if you had fed this to my parent's yellow lab

Definitely my parents dog and she never gets people food, plus the cake was cold, otherwise I have no explanation. My lab-husky mutt in the middle definitely "won"

Holy cow you guys, I applied for an award that is fairly selective and I FREAKING GOT IT!!! And I get to go to a conference that I really wanted to go to but wasn't sure I'd be able to afford!!!

I'll be sitting here with a doofy grin for the rest of the day if anyone needs me.

CONGRATS!!

IM ON MY WAY TO THE AIRPORT TO GO HOME FOR THE 1st TIME SINCE LAST THANKSGIVING!!!
I get to see my spoiled calico kitty Reese and our almost 2 y/o, 105lb bernadoodle Fergus

And my parents and siblings... so that’s nice.

BUT MY AMINALSSSSS

A BERNADOODLE????

YES he is the derpiest floof ever. I will post photos once I get home.
We’ve always been a rescue lab family, and they’ve always been the best doggos ever, but some family friends got a bernadoodle pup and my parents fell in love, so after one of our geriatric rescues finally passed, my parents decided to get a puppy. It’s been really fun, and he’s so freaking large and adorkabke.

And holy run-on sentence hahahaha apologies
