RAVE HERE thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My shelter rotation in DC got cancelled because COVID...which sucks obviously, but is not a big surprise. But I found a shelter in my home state that will let me come in and do spay/neuter. It's like an hour drive and they're only two days a week but they say I can cut! At least that's something!

Officially added to the schedule at work!!!

Might seem like a weird rave, but I have been on quarantine for the past week and having a date where I can be out of the house and doing things with people in a not-irresponsible way is very exciting. Plus I really miss working in clinics. I just miss working in general.

Things got switched around a bit so now I am primarily working in internal med instead of the ER department. Which is fine, since I also love IM and will learn a ton if I'm working mostly with the internist all summer.

I am doing a 19 hour drive tomorrow.

Went to go give my cats their loading dose of gabapentin and discovered that I don't actually have gabapentin.

Tomorrow just got a lot louder.
As an additional rave, my update to my post in the rant thread:

My cats were little angels and behaved themselves very well. My female escaped her carrier 3 times in 15 minutes so I gave up and let her have free run of the car (where she stayed in the backseat/trunk area the entire time). Then my male was upset in his kennel so I let him out and he immediately calmed down and spent almost the entire drive on the passenger human's lap. So I was a bit bad from the vantage point of safety, but they were a lot happier.

I love that SDN is mostly full of well educated members of society because that means very rarely do I see the wrong “you’re” vs “your” or “thankyou” instead of “thank you” or “aloud” vs “allowed”

But when I DO see it on here, it bugs me to no end

You jinxed us! 😡

I still see a bunch of your/you're every now and then.

The big one I see that many smart people do (including SDN) is it's (it is conjunction) vs its (possessive). Drive's me bonkers! Like people will say "Examine it's properties" instead of "Examine its properties." :rage: So I deliberately read it as "Examine it is properties" and chuckle.

Ooo...not on SDN so much but people who pluralize instead of make possessive; e.g., "Just follow your companies guidelines" instead of "Just follow your company's guidelines." *bursts an aneurysm*

My autocorrect often incorrectly changes it’s/it’s and it infuriates me.

Finally ... another full day to spend with my sweet little cat and to go grocery shopping!

Missing my wonderful SDN friends - all of you! 🙂

* Note: this is NOT a photo of my cat ... but he/she looks like my cat!

I still see a bunch of your/you're every now and then. Even yesterday someone with the moniker "thegenius" used your: "'This is genius! Your a genius!' LOL" after I assumed they were, in fact, a genius. Welp. 😉

My major, MAJOR grammar pet peeve is the people who say "should of," "would of," "could of." THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE. You're saying "should HAVE." How do people forget that? And it's definitely educated people who do it too, like one of my good friends who is a chemical engineer. If you could read what nails on a chalkboard sounds like, that's what it is.

I let a lot of that stuff pass in forum settings because like, a lot of us use phones and autocorrect + fat fingers can be bad times. I do end up editing my posts hours later sometimes when I come across them again and realize there was an error

Yes, if I am on my phone, I sometimes do not add all the apostrophes that I should. I get tired of fussing with auto-correct and my fat fingers. sigh.

Same though, and if anyone has ever seen me type tired it looks like I'm drunk and have some sort of fine motor disorder

Don't get me wrong, I make the worst typos completely awake and sober. But typing tired turns into unintelligible gibberish that even I can't understand
Can confirm lol

What is bugging me up the wall is using ‘Marshall’ instead of ‘martial’.

COME ON

Got a vet med scholarship for animal welfare through the school!!! I'm so excited!!! I applied for 5, but they always say not to rely on getting one. I've never gotten one in vet school and after everything, I cant believe this is happening!!

Some GOOD NEWS!

A pregnant cat (rescued by my non-profit animal group) gave birth to 5 beautiful new kittens this morning in the safety of a loving stay-at-home foster's home.

All are healthy and doing well ... and all are receiving the best of comfort and care!

Happy Birthday to these 5 new kittens! Congrats to Mom! 😍

I miss my foster kittens

The shelter I volunteer(ed) with is opening to adoptions by appointment this week. I'm just hoping that this means they will soon be open to volunteers again. (Hope for the best, plan for the worst, as they say.)
The one I volunteer at has been doing adoptions by appt since before they closed to volunteers and still aren’t allowing volunteers currently 🙁

Previously they were only open to essential services (lost & found, animal control, end-of-life services) since they're a municipal shelter for the entire county. They had moved almost all of their animals into foster homes. So this is a huge step IMO.
