Learning how to put in a chest tube and a central line and how to do a tracheostomy on Tuesday. SOOOO PUMPED.![]()
So, did people in your lab have the same look of "oh $&@! I just punched through a chest wall" that people here did? Watching people's faces was the best part of that lab.
Coquette is the best! Pumpkin cupcake in my mailbox this morning made my day 🙂
You're welcome! 🙂 I felt like baking over the weekend.
We have an assignment for a class this week using this website: http://www.finsim.umn.edu/
It made me finally ask my husband how much he is taking out in student loans for med school (before now, I never asked because it's not like either of us is going to quit professional school, and we're not splitting up, so what did it matter?). It turns out, I'd estimated that he was taking out twice what he actually had been. Taking that into account in this budget really made me feel okay about our situation once I graduate. This is the first time I've had that feeling, and it feels nice.
The members of the equine ICU team have been awesome despite all of this craziness happening. Several have complimented the work my co-captain and I have been doing. Another came up to me today and asked if I was interested in running the trip to South Africa with her (it will be taking place next summer) because she thinks I am "good at planning things". I think I blushed.
My shingles are going away. They are no longer vesicles and look worse than before, but my arm feels ten times better and I'm not exhausted at 4 pm like I was last week.
I had my engagement/wedding rings resized and they finally fit nice and snug.
I am growing my hair out because I'm tired of the pixie cut, and it is going swimmingly. I'm pretty sure I look like Jonathan Taylor Thomas circa Man of the House right now because I haven't bothered to go in and have it cut lately (it's on the schedule for this week - hoping she can cut it so it looks less tomboyish).

Small rave, but tonight was the first night since vet school started that I've been able to truly relax. 😍
Rocked my immuno midterm today, our class had a fundraiser at Chili's, then I came home and sat here with the windows open, beautiful breeze, and football. Awesome. 🙂

Heh, I'll trade you. I love snow. It's almost November and I still got sun burned at the football game this past weekend 🙁

so. not. ready. for. snow. I've been out of the country volunteering in warmer parts of the globe for the last two winter breaks so it's been awhile since I've experienced a full winter. Gross.

Must be her first calf, the way it scares her.

You need to watch Bones then 😍
You need to watch Bones then 😍
Oh, I have! I've watched each episode twice, some of them 3-4 times. 😍 I need to catch up on the last season though.Cat is cleaning herself on my bed, sitting right next to me and the dog who has her head on my lap.
Success!! So proud of both of them right now. Especially little cat who tried to flat-out attack the dog for a while. Only has taken two and a half months to get to this point, but so excited right now!

Stabbing tally:
WildcatJ 5
DVMD: 8
over/under : 10
PP: 15
LMMS: 27
DVMD: 422
So the Surgical Principles Final is over. (Didn't stab myself during the practical, but I was a bit shaky... kind of surprising for me)...
So I officially stabbed myself 7 times in my practice, only 2 of which were hard enough for me to say (internally) "ouch". Never drew blood.
So it was the UNDER... DVMD wins, although she had 2 votes so I will call wildcatJ the recipient of......nothing but congrats.
Nah... too old in Bones. Go for Angel. You need to watch Bones then 😍

Looking back at my track record, I tend to go for the older men. 😉My Halloween costume is coming out so well! I have everything for it all done now, just waiting for the paint to dry. Tomorrow's going to be awesome!

Yay for winning! And yay for not stabbing yourself too many times!
I have the most awesome friends & classmates ever.

I get to study parasit this weekend.
I say "get to" because it's the only thing that sticks a bit better than throwing mashed potatoes at a wall. I kinda like it. And it doesn't require a huge effort to retain it.
But after that it's pharm. Eeeeeew pharm.

Well, you did mention parasit. and pharm. in the same post. Badness.
My Addisonian crisis dog (patient) is doing great. 🙂

Fingers crossed for him/her

My rave is that midterms are over and I can actually get my life back together, starting with McDonalds for lunch followed by grocery shopping, laundry, air in my tires and cleaning the house. It's going to be a busy, delightfully-study-free weekend 🙂
I love palpating...my vet lets me do the gentle ones (cows) on calls. Okay, not mares, but still. Nobody seems to understand how exciting it is to feel everything in there!Mare palpation this morning 😍
I actually felt everything![]()
I am quite good at doing udder palpations on ewes at day 90- I have something like 95% accuracy (open or in lamb, not anything else, of course). I kinda wish we had something safer than rectal-rod palpation for ewes, but not as pricey as scanning, and can preg-detect earlier than udder or abdominal palpation...but I don't see that happening anytime soon, or maybe ever.
