Moved into my new apartment! Still have a few odds and ends at my old place and I need to go back and clean before I return the key, but otherwise the bulk of it is done. I'm already 1000x happier and more comfortable here than I ever was at the old apartment, so I'm glad I made the right decision. 😍

That's exciting! I'm glad you're happy with your new place. I'm now wishing I hadn't signed a 12 month lease. Can't wait to look for a place of my own next summer, haha.

My rave: I'm way too excited that my kitten is using the setup I just put together for her litter box and food. Now the dog will have a harder time eating her poop and her food!

I feel like my facebook feed is constantly filled with people running marathons and half marathons and for whatever reason, today I decided I wanted to be one of those people.

I had already been sort of feeling like I should be eating healthier, and I figured starting a regular exercise routine would motivate me to do that. So I'm going to start training for a half marathon. I used to be an avid runner in high school and ran on my college track team in the beginning of undergrad, but things got in the way really quickly and I stopped.

So I'm excited to "get back on the horse" and start training. (plus, living on a Caribbean island and being in a bathing suit all the time has really pushed me to take better care of my body 🙂 )

Any advice or words of encouragement from people who had run halves or longer is much appreciated 🙂

I love Canadians, except when they try to drive, period. Seriously, Canadian drivers scare the hell out of me. And I'm from Massachusetts . . .

PEI drivers suck. The rest of us are sane, I swear. I have seen more near-misses in two years on this island then I have in eight years of driving in Nova Scotia. I'm always amazed this island doesn't have more fatal crashes.

Definitely run a 5 and 10k run first. Make it part of your training. You should be fine though since you were a runner, so you're familiar with it.

I run my first half on Sunday. Super nervous because I haven't trained as hard as I should have and I've had a stomach bug the past few days.

They totally do!! It's quite ridiculous.

We got the rental house we wanted! 😀

Oh awesome- good luck! You'll have to let me know how it goes. I'm sure adrenaline and nerves will help you do just fine. I'll definitely try and find a 5K and 10K to run before mine.

Spring schedules just opened up and all 3 of the courses I want to take are available! Systematic Herpetology (with field lab, yeeeeeah), Behavioral Ecology, and Conservation Genetics. 😍

I just finished a working interview at the clinic I volunteered at.

I think it went very well. I was very comfortable in the hospital and the staff were friendly. People kept speaking like I was getting the job, which makes me feel pretty optimistic.

The job doesn't seem like it is as overwhelming as I originally thought.

It is Thursday! That means only one more day of class before super fun time weekend! The husband and I are going to a concert in Seattle that I'm WAY excited about, and then we are staying in a hotel that is way too fancy for our pay scale. It has a pool and a water view! Yay!

How am I going to get through the next day and a half? I don't know.

Just got to get through teaching my last lab section of the day, then my four-day weekend starts! Heading up to Dallas to stay with a friend, going to see a million movies, and best part...THE TEXAS STATE FAIR!!! 😍 I'm gonna be all over some funnel cake like white on rice.

holy crap we have a state fair this late in the year? hahaha didn't even know! I wish I wasn't 11 hours away tho 🙁

The vet I used to work for has been doing some great networking for me! A few weeks ago she emailed me to let me know that a friend of hers would be coming to PEI as the new AAHA student liaison, and she passed my contact info on to her so that I'll get a chance to meet her when she comes to the island. Then today our Intro to Vet Med guest lecturer called me out by name in the middle of a lecture on veterinary ethics, and said that the vet I'd worked for had mentioned me to him. I talked to him briefly after class, and he asked me all about my career plans, since he already knew I have an interest in large/mixed animal practice. Pretty cool!

I'm definitely not the type of person to just approach any of these people out of the blue and strike up a conversation, so having these little mini-introductions already made for me is awesome. Yay networking! 😀

My neurophys prof noticed that I seemed pretty stressed today....and took some time out of his lunch to sit down with me and pass on some of his mnemonic tips. I love how much some profs care. 😍 It gives me hope that I can somehow survive this process.

Vet school rave!

I kicked major butt on my neuro exam. WOOOOOO! AND we starting learning how to localize lesions in class today, and it was so. freaking. awesome. Never had so much fun in a class before.

I seriously have the most thoughtful, considerate and supportive boyfriend and I am so grateful for him.

Midterm stress had gotten to me last night and I turned into a lonely bucket of tears. He drove from 3 hours away (and a $45 bridge fair) because he knew I needed him here with me. I'm not normally a needy person but yesterday I just became emotionally and mentally drained and didn't want to be alone. He brought me homemade soup, lobster, cleaned my hedgehog cage, did my dishes and got rid of my fruit fly infestation. His visit is just what I needed for a mid-midterm breather. He's since gone back home and really couldn't ask for a better partner and friend. After 7 years he's still as thoughtful as he was when he was trying to win me over 🙂 sorry to gush but I'm just so grateful for his support.

Yes! It's from late September to late October every year. This was the last weekend and also the last time for the Birds of the World show. I cried like a baby when Steve gave his little goodbye speech. I've attended the show for past 15 years. It was my favorite thing to do at the Fair...other than stuff my face with fried food. At least the weather was perfect and I didn't overspend like I thought I would. And I fed cownose stingrays! Aaaah, so cute!!! Such a great weekend. 😍

I survived Monday.:hardy::clap::soexcited::prof::banana::zip:

That is all.

Spent the bulk of my day playing with cats and beagles, then topped it off with free pizza for lunch. Sometimes vet school is just awesome. 😀

Forgot to post this yesterday--I got to do half of a rabbit spay!!!

I'm kind of bummed about it because it was through a club, and it was a terminal sx, and we weren't told ahead of time. It was a great experience, and I really valued it, but I'm not 100% sure I would have done it if I had known in advance...

I did a really fun clin path wetlab today on the multihead microscope, and then when I got home I played with my roommates' dogs and baked brownies. Feeling pretty good right now. 🙂

I went to the Kennel Club meeting tonight and had a lot of fun. I find that dog show/sport people are always super nice and welcoming as they always are eager to help people newer to that area in any way they can. Tonight was no exception and I put in an application to join and paid my dues! Very excited! It is also nice to get away from vet school for a bit (though they did bring in two vets to talk about laser therapy). I was also the youngest person there, by far, but that's alright.

I got an A+ on the skin section and lab section for my path midterm! I thought I failed those sections so I am relieved. I failed the endocrine section 🙁 but overall my mark was decent 🙂

I finally am feeling like I'm getting back into shape! I have been falling further and further out of shape over the past year, and I'm trying so hard to get back to my old level of fitness. I have actually lost a few pounds in the past week or so. One step at a time I guess. And a few less beers...

Woohoo, this afternoon I figured out a way to stay in Europe even if I don't manage to extend my UK visa! Did my research and turns out I'm eligible for this Irish Working Holiday Visa, and I absolutely love Ireland, so think I'm gonna move there for the 7-8 months before vet school if I have to leave London! 😀 And I haven't received any further job rejections today, so that's also a nice change, haha.

Probably woefully inadequate for a third year, but I managed my first solo blood draw today! Solo as in I didn't have someone hovering over me telling me exactly where to go, angle like this, redirect that way, pull back a litttle, etc; I did have people restraining for me.

Nerdy rave, but we had an entire lecture on prions today!!! While I knew most of the material from a presentation/paper I did in undergrad, I still get super excited whenever it's a topic of discussion. Still would really like to get involved in research related to them or something similar, but I'm having trouble with that since I have no idea how to approach anyone.

Got my security deposit back in full! Breathing a huge sigh of relief that I no longer need to stress about that stupid apartment.

It took that long?!

Yep. Technically by law she's supposed to get it to me within ten days, but I figured I'd give her until November 1 before I started complaining since she was supposed to be mailing it and Canada Post is slow. Then she emailed me this afternoon and said she lost both my new address and my phone number ( 🙄 ) and asked me to meet her in town so she could give it to me. I'm just glad to be done with it.

I feel like I say this a lot (not just to you, but to the Americans in general), whether it's about driving, mail, healthcare, etc. It's really not all of Canada. It's PEI. I've mailed tons of stuff and Canada Post is usually almost as fast as the private companies and at a fraction of the price. But PEI, like in other areas, is just kind of screwy.

OMG OMG OMG Thor 2 comes out soon!!!!! I completely forgot that Nov 8 isn't so far away.

Where's my 😍 emoticon....

I'm so ready for some Chris Hemsworth.
