RAVE HERE thread

I dressed as a nun for Halloween last night and it was fantastic. Best costume idea ever and I had so much fun.

Only downside is that I'm too exhausted to function today.

I can finally enjoy some post midterm bliss. This whole week was consumed by a big group presentation while the rest of our class was busy relaxing and partying. Never mind the fact that our first final is in exactly 30 days...

I am ALMOST done with midterms!!! I have one online elective exam to go (open book so not that stressful). But I have had an exam every week (or 2/week) for 8 WEEKS. I am SO happy to be DONE.😀

Thank goodness! Ugh.

I'm officially in the market for a new road bike! I have wanted a new one for a while, but I just decided to actually pull the trigger. I'm hoping to use this one for a while to commute while I build an awesome custom one. That'll be a loooong pricey project though.

I'm so excited, but so impatient!

Today was the best day I've had in a long time! We had one patient on cardiology today, and the exam came back relatively normal so that was happy. Rounds went well today and they let us out at like 3:15, so I went home, got some chores done and went for a ride on the horse I'm now leasing. We had a great ride, and my instructor just happened to catch us cantering and called it "lovely" which was a real compliment! At the end of the ride, the sun was setting, which was catching all the colors of the leaves on the trees, and there was a rainbow in the sky. Absolutely gorgeous. Then I came home and played video games with my husband.

"The canter is the cure to all evils". And I'll say, a compliment from a riding instructor is like magic good day juju.

I want to show so badly now!

Ahh I haven't experienced a show yet, but I want to! Some of my friends have volunteered themselves as my show moms just so I can get the full experience 😛

spent my afternoon carving pumpkins underwater (diving) and then did an amazing night dive tonight!

[and I only cried a little bit today - feels like a small step/accomplishment?]

My formerly sick little doggie suddenly decided he is healthy. Wow.... what a handful. So happy to see him playing, annoying my other IG and the cat, and making a nuisance of himself, just generally enjoying life and being the happy dog he usually is.... Now if the polyuria and fecal incontinence went away... that would be a real rave.

I'm glad he's feeling better!

Aww, I'm glad he's feeling so much better. 🙂

Just got a job finally!!! It's only a temporary position so I still need to apply to longer term positions but.. money is money, and it's working as a research assistant to help finish off an ongoing project, so I'm excited! 😀

We just got two sections cut off our anatomy test next week! Which means they'll be on the final, but I really appreciate not being quite so overwhelmed right now.

Huge thanks to Coquette for the fudge! I needed the sugary chocolate deliciousness to get through health management.

Found a highly-rated, decently-priced mobile detailing company that can get my Tsuruga nice and pretty when I go home for Thanksgiving--hand wash, clay bar, dress the trim, polish, sealant, wax--the whole nine yards! 😀 There's nothing like having a gleaming, spotless car...just like when it rolled off the factory floor. -tingles-

Spay knot certified and get to do half a spay this Saturday!!

Honest curiosity: What is a "spay knot"? I've never heard of a "spay knot". Wondering if that's some term used out at Penn I don't know about? Or does it just mean you had to demonstrate a circumferential and/or a transfixation ligature?

(It's a serious question... it didn't take me long to realize there are all sorts of regional naming variations on knots and suture patterns.)

It's really more of the name for the lab held to be "certified" to start doing spays under supervision. It's kind of a blanket term for the Surgeon's, Buried, Cruciate and Miller's knots and then some basic suturing patterns. Didn't think about the possible confusion when I posted...sorry about that!

100% on my small animal med exam 😀 why can't i be this good at my other classes like therio? or large animal surgery? or diagnostic imaging? (which is really only impossibly difficult because the professor is a :asshat: and wants us to fail - told us yesterday our cumulative final would include material we've never seen before and instead of our exams being image based, they're just random T/F statements)

Bought my ticket to see the Doctor Who 50th on the big screen. Unfortunately, not on the Saturday, Charlottetown is only getting it two days later. So I'll watch it on TV on Saturday and then watch it again in 3D in theatres two days later and pick up on all the things I missed the first time.

I got my ticket, too! And it is actually on the 23rd here, although not in the area where my undergrad was. I'm really excited about it. Plus I got the ticket for $5 by completing a deal with VistaPrint to buy the business cards I'd been planning to get for a while anyway. 😀

Today is such a nice break, being with my family. 🙂 I got to have a nice lunch with my parents, play with my little brother at a playground, and get a snowball, and dad and I are going to see Ender's Game tonight.

A mom that I regularly babysit for asked me to bring my dog when I go over to watch her son today! Apparently he has been obsessed with dogs lately and hasn't shut up about mine after meeting her while trick or treating. How cute is this?! 😀

I thought for sure my landlords were about to tell me that my cat is being a PITA because he's been meowing at my door constantly for the past week. Instead they offered to take care of him for me if I ever want to go away for a few days. I love living here!

Took my pre-requisite math placement test today after not taking a math class in 8 years...tested into level 8 out of 10! woohoo! :soexcited:

studying my ass off really paid off.

I started my first job with a small animal clinic yesterday. Considering I have no previous experience in a small animal clinic, I'm super stoked to be getting paid! And the doctor is super sweet. She knows I want to go to vet school, so she has taken the time to show me things and explain what she's doing.

Just made the most delicious butternut squash soup. I would happily drown in it.

I start my job at a clinic on Monday night! Let's be new job buddies! :highfive:

Holy ****. Through a friend of a friend of a friend I just got back in touch with someone I was close friends with over 10 years ago. We were both very young, did nothing but drink and party, and had zero direction other than where we were getting drunk the next weekend.

Get this... she's a VET STUDENT!! And guess where? At UPENN, where I work as a veterinarian! What. The. Eff. It is completely insane that we ended up following the same path and in the same place.

No one who knew us back then would EVER think either of us would be doctors. Crazy.

So I got this on call OR tech job. I've been signing up for as many shifts as I've been allowed to take during the "training period" (where they call an established tech and you in simultaneously), and with 50 hours on call had yet to have an emergency surgery come in. So today after class I just went to shadow in the OR (with the permission of my supervisor). I introduced myself to the late afternoon tech and asked him to show me everything he could. He did, then when I went to leave said, if anything ends up coming in tonight how about I call you instead of whoever is on call. Got a call about 10 minutes after I finished dinner. Hemoabdomen. Got to watch and help with the whole process for the resulting splenectomy, gastropexy, and liver biopsy. I'm so glad I made myself go shadow this afternoon, all I wanted to do was nap, but this turned out better.

Going to my first Taekwondo class tonight! Really hoping it's a good one, I definitely need something fun to encourage me to get my butt off the couch on a regular basis!
