I really wish the freaking owners who say things like that understood that I only make $10 from that $50 exam. The amount of abuse I take from some clients is sooo not worth that $10, especially when they linger for like an hour or two and I need to keep coming back to them between other appointments.

Of course those are also the "free first exams" that I get paid nothing on because they also decline all diagnostics and treatment. It's like they come just to make my life miserable, and complain about the money they're NOT paying me. And I feel ****ty because I truly feel bad for their pet. Thankfully this doesn't happen very often.

I had someone come in for a free first exam the other day. She wasn't up to date on prevention and the dog has several issues. She wouldn't say why she came in other than for a check up. Declined everything. Just came in to visit us with her dog I guess
 
Seriously, I don't go to a restaurant and complain to the waiter about how expensive the food is, complain about how I have so much student debt that I eat crappy food most days at home, and how I would love to order that steak but it's too expensive. I don't go, "Why are you charging me. $30 for that steak when the meat itself is only $15 if you buy it at the store!? Chili's had a 2 entree for the price of one deal now, why don't you???"

And then just walk out after asking for a lemon slice in my water and eating 2 baskets of rolls, not paying anything, and verbally being all pissed off about how even just the salad is $10.

Why is it unacceptable to do that, but it's perfectly fine to assume that vets don't have to get paid for their services or their time? Just because a lot of compassion is involved in my job does not mean I shouldn't be compensated. Ugh.

But I forgot this was a rave thread. For once I saw a show with real commercials! Something I never thought I'd be happy about, but for some reason I am. I've felt so left out from the "have you seen that commercial?" conversations.

Sorry to add to this rant on the rave thread, but we use a similar analogy all the time. We've often have new clients come in with a sick pet and then when we go to charge them out they tell us they didn't bring any form of payment! Because I go into the grocery store all the time, get food and then tell them I didn't bring payment, but I still expect to take my food with me.
 
Have any of you guys watched the docu series on HBO called The Jinx? Ive watched all 6 episodes today and it is really good.
 
Today is the first official day of spring break, yet I went into the clinic to help a friend out who was bringing 18 golden puppies in for their 6 week old health exam. SO MUCH PUPPY LOVE. This is what I live for

As a rave of my own - I just realized that while I'm on my neuro rotation we have our senior party thingamajiggy where we get the weekend off. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! TAKE THAT YOU TERRIBLE HORRIBLE ROTATION - TAKE THAT!!
 
The third clinic vacuum we've bought in just under three months broke again today. It was so ironic, our manager only spent like $50 on it, so it was expected. I just stood there laughing while I was crying as I told my boss. I have no clue why but I thought it was the funniest thing ever.

and I can tell you that about 75% of the reason I'm dreading has nothing to do with neurology but 25% of the dread is pure hatred of lack of sleep. I want sleep and when you take it away....I get angry.

Do what I did. I got a few pairs of sweatpants from goodwill and free t-shirts from campus housing fair and tada! New workout wardrobe.

I would but I hate working out in sweatpants. They only purpose they serve is for cleaning or after I've eaten a crap ton of food. and normal cotton t shirts are too heavy and make me feel claustrophobic. Ever since I bought a few nice pieces of workout clothing, I guess I've become kind of a snob about it.

Actually cotton stuff isn't great for running or if you're working out pretty hard because sweat just gets absorbed in it and makes it heavier and makes it chafe on your skin and stuff. Actual workout stuff that won't give you rashes is expensive, though, yep!

I was going to go last year, and then I decided to spend 2 weeks playing with sea turtles instead 😀

I looked up when this is just to see if I might happen to have the time off.

I will actually be on an emergency medicine externship during that time.

Ugh I don't even want to talk about sea turtle. It filled up for us after two rounds in our pick four process, and it's half full of random small animal people. Like, seriously? We can't take critical care if we're not small animal focused, but the SA people can fill up my freaking sea turtle selective?! GRUMBLE.

We have waaay more exotics people in 2016 than 2015 had.

I survived the most bizarre week I've had since I started work in June. I managed to avoid bringing work home for 10 months (finally had to today). Got to perform a new surgery this week. Mom bought me another box of Cadbury chocolate creme eggs. And I saved a puppy with nothing but 5% dextrose today (owners thought it was a miracle).

All in all, not too shabby.
 
My parents are coming up tomorrow to take puppy out on the town so I can actually sleep. I've also come up with a full name for Zaius that amuses me to keep myself from going crazy: Zaius Beezelbub Samara Thorn (Thorn is not my last name either).

rave because of awesome support system and also because he's still precious even though he's a pain in the butt
