This is what about half of my patients look like at my current externship. I'm seriously in heaven. 😍

Highlight of my day, while helping a client get her huge older lab back into her car:
Client: What's your name again?
Me: [Firstname Lastname]
Client : Are you from around here?
Me: No I'm from [Other part of the province].
Client; Are you staying here?
Me: Uh-
Client: Oh please say yes!

My boyfriend bought a new car today! Well, pre-owned, but new to him. His previous car was an '80s clunker that was completely falling apart (for instance, it no longer had working windshield wipers), so it will be nice to not have to drive him around all the time anymore, and I'm proud of him for admitting that car was impractical and no longer worth the upkeep. He was in love with that thing, but it was a total lemon that he'd found on Craigslist. He'd been kind of waffling as to whether now was the best time financially to buy a car, so I was surprised when he actually went for it today. But it's nice to see how much he's matured in just the three years we've been together (he got the aforementioned clunker shortly after we started dating).

The BF is coming to visit next weekend! :biglove::biglove: Perfect timing, because I'll have just taken my midterm and be ready for R+R.

I was reviewing one of my histo powerpoints and realized I could name and explain everything on the slide without trouble! Huge thing since I've been trying and failing so hard at physio that I was getting into the "I must not know anything" territory.

It really is nice to have a working oven again. For years, I had to put up with a temperamental gas oven that wouldn't hold its heat, so I would just break down and order food. Now, I have an electric oven that not only works consistently, but has digital settings and automatic timers that makes cooking food easier.

Plus, since my brother is no longer my roommate, when I make food, it lasts for a good four to five days.

I hope all of these things significantly reduce my grocery bills and allow me to eat healthier - though I do foresee myself making lots of wonderful baked goods.

I had no idea male persons ate so much until I moved in with my boyfriend and his male roommate. I'll make a meal, expecting the leftovers to last for a few days at least, and then I'm done eating and they're going up for seconds and thirds and suddenly, no leftovers at all. It's heartbreaking every time, because I'm so used to having tasty leftovers for future dinners/lunches.

TELL ME ABOUT IT. I make nice healthy meals for my husband and I and I'm so excited for leftovers or even freezing some for later but he sees the extra food and thinks "hmmmm, I could go ahead and eat all that right now." And then it's gone.

edit: errr but that that's kind of a rant so here's this rave: at least he's willing to try anything and everything I make, from ethnic foods to **** I just throw together without a recipe

I found out today that my closest bank branch (I moved recently) opens at 9 am on Saturday. While I don't normally even wake up to see 9am on a Saturday, that seems about two hours later than I would expect it to open. Oh well, at least I got all of my shopping done before the rest of Columbus woke up and headed out to the huge shopping center near me. The traffic sucks, but almost every store I shop at has a location there and, come 2017, there will be an Ikea to make it all worth it (at least to me).

This has me laughing so hard! I'll admit that I tend to oversize my own portions (I'm trying to be more health conscious now though), but my boyfriend blows me out of the water.

I made a cabbage/sausage skillet thing once. It took up an entire large stockpot...probably enough to feed 5 people with 2-3 bowls each. I had maybe two bowls and was done. By the time I got out of the shower, there was enough left for one bowl.

My boyfriend doesn't even like cabbage.

I found a group of fellow nerds to have a regular schedule of game nights with!!!!! Also, instead of getting my arse into the lab today, I have instead been steadily drinking my poor man's Bloody Mary since 13:00 local time and re-reading Hitchhiker's guide while listening to creepy movie orchestrations to enhance the mood. Content with life for a moment.

First week of vet school down! Really only one full day of classes and 3 days of orientation. So thrilled to be apart of such a smart group of people!

So I'm not sure if you guys all know, but we euthanized my family dog two weeks ago. My family decided to get another dog (a little sooner than I would've liked, but I think my other pup would want us to be happy.)

Everyone meet Kodiak! Seven months old (so slightly past the obnoxious puppy phase) and pretty adorbs. We're going to pick him up when I'm home next month.

4 weeks after my Golden Retrievers Tate elbow replacement he is FINALLY walking!!!! (All the previous TER dogs were walking in 10 days max so I was a bit scared to say the least)

The fact that I'm apparently good at palpating the dorsal branch of the ulnar nerve on a horse makes me really happy. That's all I really need to know, right?

it doesnt seem like a reasonable life skill. maybe the horsie people would disagree though
I mean it really isn't other than being required to know, lol. It's just nice to feel confident about something as a first year. It's also hard for me to say "Eh, I won't actually need to know this."

I love my technicians.

I had a craptastic shift yesterday. First few hours sleepy, then the wheels came off the bus and it quickly turned into "Tell people who to call to go to our other nearby clinic, because there's no chance they'll be seen here in less than 4 hours." 10-11 euths, which - even when they're all great choices - wears you down. 3 of them hemoabs from spleens. At one point, three cases literally came through the door together; two neck lacerations and a very sick IntMed case. And my shift relief didn't show up, so I was stuck there until a vet could be found to come handle the night shift.

As I went to repair one of the neck lacerations a little while later, I put on gloves and hunted for instruments on the tray my techs had prepared. It took me a while - guy eyes - but eventually I realized they had put together the most useless tray possible. A spay hook. A retractor of some kind. A staple remover. The biggest forceps I've ever seen. Zero needle drivers.

I just started laughing and laughing. Very good timing on their part. Very nice to lighten the mood.

Did my 100th surgery today. 😀 Not super convinced that I like the electrocautery this place uses for neuters, but it's neat to try.
At least you have electrocautery? 🙂 I asked my boss for one for Christmas last year, but no dice. There's always next year right?

It is super nice for skin bleeders. I'm just used to a blade! Half the time I haven't even had a handle for my blade, and then they hand me this fancy thingamajig... 😛

Dannnng. That's awesome.
😀 I've been hovering in the 90s for a while and just watching my spreadsheet slowly creep up.

I applied for the VMCAS fee reimbursement program and found out today I GOT IT! So I'll be refunded the full $195 application fee via a check in the mail soon! YAY for being poor!

I bought a box of Red Lobster cheddar biscuit mix at a discount store last week. I was a little skeptical that maybe they would suck but for $2 I was willing to try. Made giant cheddar biscuits for lunch. They don't taste exactly like the ones prepared in store, but they're still pretty tasty and should pair nicely with my BBQ chicken breasts.

Two weeks ago I did emergency surgery ($$$$) for a new client's puppy. Came in for staple removal and brought her cat, which we've never seen. After $$$ in diagnostics on the cat, we have surgery scheduled for next week- $$$$. Through all of this, not a single complaint about the costs, just a few jokes about everything happening all at once and it being time for the pets to start earning their keep. And it's not that she's wealthy- just willing to do what's best for her pets.

Such a nice change from all the cranky "it's JUST a cat" types I've had lately. And said client is officially one of my new favorites after the super sweet thank you card she sent me. I just want to hug her. And plant a money tree in her back yard.

I did weight lifting exercises for my ankles for the first time in about a year and feel pretty exhausted after my work out. And am 2 days out from surgery (different body part). I know it doesn't seem like much, but it feels awesome and it's been so long.

I have been meaning to rave about this for a few weeks, but Hulu commercial FRREEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😍
I put my account on hold until I have an income again but once that happens you can bet I'm upgrading 😀

Sooo excited about it, though! I'll get to pick some specialty areas to examine
