I guess I just had unrealistic/media-influenced expectations of London and then once we got there and were actually immersed I felt like (other than the people, major landmarks/areas, and touristy things everywhere) I could've just stayed in the US for a similar big, grey city experience. Again, though, I did still enjoy the trip (got to see Spamalot among other things!), I am just weird and like Scotland >>> England. I really loved Edinburgh, Glasgow, and miscellaneous smaller towns we stayed at. They had so much life and history-among-modernity while a lot of the (non-touristy) areas of London seemed drab and commercial in comparison. This was a high school summer trip in 2008 and the only time I've ever been out of the country so far!
We did Abbey Road (dangerous, would not recommend 😛) and all that but unfortunately we did not get to stop by Platform 9 3/4. Some other tour group of kids was flaunting their pics and I was jealous!
Edinburgh is beautiful and I never made it up to Glasgow, but I get what you mean. I actually loved where I studied abroad in northern England better than London/southern areas. It's beautiful up North and there are soo many cute towns worth exploring.

, I can suggest some fun things to do there!
