An amazing 38h spent with the boy. I don't get to see him often so I decided to drive 6h each way to get to Boise where he's doing a shelter med rotation. I got there when he got off Saturday and we had a romantic dinner and saw secret life of pets. Then the next day we had breakfast at the hotel, went for a pokewalk, then went and saw the birds of prey thingy, then went to a fancy french fry place for lynch, then floated the river where I got rip-roaring drunk and fell off my float and wasn't coordinated enough to get back on for a long time, then had dinner at an awesome brewery, then saw star trek. I dropped him off and left for home and I miss him already.

I love that kid so much I'm going to squeeze him until he dies. When we graduate and he goes for his internship wherever and I take that job in northern Nevada it's going to be so hard
Question about star trek: did you also think that Krall looked like an aloe vera plant? I am taking a survey because I thought he looked like an aloe vera plant.

Day one into my ECC externship and I have to say I'm pretty dang smitten :biglove:.

I'm a weeee bit worried about the potential of having to complete an internship/residency, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it and just really enjoy the crap out of ECC until then.
I'm happy to help talk you into or out of it any any time 😉

All I've done is shadow in the ER, but ugh I love ECC too.

I have to say, I've been on these boards a long time. And even though we have a few issues now and then, I'm really proud of how pre-vet and vet users interact with each other.

When I started on here, there were almost no vets.

So I guess what I'm saying is keep up the good work, everyone. I'm proud of the direction we're moving in.

@WhtsThFrequency and @twelvetigers may be the only other people that remember the original crowd and moderator.

Get all that board prep talk off here. GET OFF GET OFFFFFFF. YOU ALMOST BRAINWASHED ME INTO STARTING MY VETPREP STUFF, CURSE YOU CRAZIES

How's your head stuff?

It's still here. Giving a new abortive medication a shot. Seems to be doing better than the last but this heat is not my friend :flame: Thanks for asking 🙂

Bummer. Migraines are so debilitating. I was talking to my friend about hers recently (the friend that has gotten Botox) and she said she's always available to chat about the things she's tried (A LOT of things) or just to commiserate if you ever need someone who's been there 🙂

I've been considering the Botox. I would love to talk to someone who's done it, if she wouldn't mind!

Nyanko too, though she is sparse. And Minners.

I don't know if I ever saw the original moderator actually post - maybe once?

It was all fuzzy kittens back when I started, which was nice. Maybe we get into more pissy arguments these days, but vet Ned as a whole needed (and still needs) a good hard slap in the face, and we are facilitating that. And occasionally arguing about something really stupid. But families and friends do that, too. So it's okay.

we used to get into more spats about it being fuzzy kittens. It's mostly accepted now.

PAThrbrd was still posting when I started. There were more interpersonal issues than there are now iirc

Vet Ned tells it like it is!!!!!

PAThrbrd, like a thoroughbred horse from Pennsylvania, not someone who does pathology and likes birds. Haha. Kinda like DVMorbust was DVM or bust, not an old man named D. V. Morbust.

Zero confusion these days, right Le Tits Now?

I remember a few random posts from the original mod but really just a couple. You got a year on me though, IIRC.

I remember her explaining that at some point because enough people though PATH bird.

That brings back memories. I remember quite a few of the older crowd, but I was even quieter then than I am now, so I actually interacted with very few of them.

I remember DVMorbust. Remember PAThrbrd too, but I don't think she or he posted much one I joined.

I have been thinking about that username (PAThrbrd) all day trying to figure out what thoroughbred horse from Pennsylvania had bird in its name before I figured out that the username is literally PA thoroughbred. Which you explained in this post. :smack:

I am very smart.

I remember DVMorbust as a name and a vague post style, but PAThrbrd is only a vague memory of trying to figure out what that name meant. I think they posted a bit on the WA thread the year that I was an alternate over there...

All of this is just vague recollection though. Like grasping for shadows that are glimpsed from the corner of your eye.

I'm working on increasing my 2% right now and I'm getting very nervous that I keep getting questions right. Usually I'm not this good... I wish I wasn't burning all my luck now and instead could bottle some up for the actual NAVLE

Had a blast presenting my research yesterday (and got some really great feedback).
Just submitted my vet school application:soexcited:
Now off to get my big girl driver's license (yay for 21st birthdays!).
Life is good:biglove:

Edit: Got a random email from the Dean of Research at my school. He said he was impressed with my presentation and offered to write me a recommendation. Say what?!😱

I bought a new car. It's my first new car, but there's more meaning to it than that.

8/19/13 I was in a car accident that cascaded into finding out I had a medical issue that won't resolve. The accident was technically my fault and I've been beating myself up since then for it. My old car was already 8 years old at the time and we thought it would be totaled. We started talking about buying then, but I didn't trust myself with a new car. Eventually the other car was repaired (got lucky they didn't total it) and it's been limping along since. It did fairly well but certain things just didn't work the way they used to. Sometimes the driver side door wouldn't close well, the clock was in and out due to loose connections, etc. But we're in debt (mortgage, student loans) and even though we kept talking about new cars - mine was 11 and his is 8, we also didn't seriously consider it until recently.

So this car means I trust myself enough to have nice things again - I think I've forgiven myself just a bit. My husband was entirely supportive of the decision. After we brought it home, he told me that I've deserved a new car for a while now. And it was 0% down and 0% apr, so the burden isn't as high as it could be. Also, I get a certain amount of glee that I dropped off a car that was under 1/4 tank full with worn tires and got a car with new tires and a full tank. It's the little things.

My 5 year old just lost her first baby tooth!

We kinda freaked out because it was a bit early and the tooth has been loose since her MRI a few months ago. It is pretty common for kiddos with DS to randomly have alopecia or lose their teeth or not get adult teeth...
Anyway, perfectly healthy adult teeth all coming in and looking good! (And a gorgeous full head of hair!)

Wait, when is the average age for kids to lose baby teeth? I lost my first tooth when I was like 3.

Then again, I have a mutant mouth so I'm assuming my normal is probably not right.

We were told 7, but 5 and 6 isn't too weird for typical kids. Kiddos with DS are frequantly delayed physically and many don't lose the first tooth until after 8-10 years old (if at all).

B had her first set of teeth in by age 3 (completely typical) but we knew a 5 year old with only 3 teeth and no sign of others coming. Every little achievement is a celebration, but also a lesson in humility.

Image that came to mind: a normal looking person with an anglerfish mouth, a la Finding Nemo style.
My teeth were all sorts of messed up, I actually don't want to think about how much money my parents spent making them normal.

When I was a kid I called my teeth monster teeth and apparently didn't like to smile because I hated them so much. My two front teeth stuck straight out and I had my first pair of braces at 6. I needed the braces to flatten my teeth out enough so I could actually get regular braces put on lol

My jaw and palate were also apparently too small, orthodontist told my mom that if he saw me at 14 I would have needed surgery to correct it. Ended up getting all sorts of crazy hardware put in my mouth to fix it instead.

Anyway, the angler fish analogy is probably pretty close to what my teeth actually looked like for a while haha

Lol! I went to look up a pic to demonstrate PBCs post, called hyperdontia. But with my repro background, I went on auto pilot and typed in hyperspadia (not right I know, brain was malfunctioning...) and could not figure out why those were not teeth for nearly 30 seconds. 🤣

NSFW! Do not go looking up images for those words without checking out meanings first. Hint: repro!
