Had a "treat yo' self" day and it felt so good! I got 6 tops, 3 pairs of jeans (and found out I'm down a size!), and a cute pair of ankle boots. Future me may regret spending so much, but current me says "you deserve this!"
 
I'm almost done painting my grandma's old china cabinet. One more glass door frame and then some interior pieces. I have today and tomorrow off work so I'm hoping I can get it all done. One day soon my living room won't be cluttered with half finished craft projects and bags of stuff to put in my parent's garage sale. That is my dream.
 
I got accepted to UW madison, and the only other school I'm waiting to hear back from is my IS, Illinois! IM SO HAPPY BECAUSE THIS MEANS I CAN DROP ORGO II AND TAKE A RANDOM GEN ED AND NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT BECAUSE NEITHER SCHOOL NEEDS IT HELLLLLL YEAAAHHHHHHHHH

Thanks! He's starting to get the gray face and has knee and hip issues, but he still gets around fine enough and still loves to play. I adopted my kiddo back in July of 20o6 and it was the best decision I ever made. 🙂
 
I pretty much "wung it" (wang it? winged it? words are hard...) on the last two of my first round of midterms which were Small Animal Med 2 and Special Species because life is hard and personal life crap was causing me to be a bad stress procrastinator..... and yet somehow I managed to get a solid B and a nearly almost A on them respectively. *self high five*
 
There are so many cool opportunities going on around my school and I am just super excited because I can do most of them! 😀

In the next month I'm going to:
  • journal clubs on topics I'm really jazzed about
  • a shelter medicine mini conference
  • a panel on veterinary forensics
  • a seminar on doing necropsies for criminal investigations + a necropsy lab where we'll go through the techniques
  • an Outbreak Response Training that will get me certified to work on foodborne disease outbreaks in the state (gotta keep people from puking on me lol :vomit:)
Basically, I'm just excited about things and it's a good feeling because I've been stuck in a school grind lately. :woot: :biglove:
 
Sponsored dinner with vet-related companies as a resident are the best. A dog food company gave us branded Yeti mugs last month. A specialty/emergency veterinary hospital chain took us out tonight. I'm currently stuffed on prime steak, potatoes, alcohol, and dessert...eating leftover cake in my bed. After hearing discussions on starting salaries, I've realized I'm in the wrong specialty, haha...apparently my lifetime 'goal' salary is basically what this company starts their radiologists at. And it sounded like the other specialists like surgeons aren't too far behind them. Good thing I love clin path.

Yum, I'm super jealous. I'm just excited that my internship has a lecture every Friday morning with bagels and coffee -- man, if cake was on the table...

I got to cuddle 3 baby goats today! Their mom rejected them so they are being bottle raised. Two are a little sick but will hopefully recover just fine. One sat in my lap and nibbled on my hair for a good 30min. They were too sweet. The healthiest one loved to jump in people's laps. I think I want goats as pets.

I'm in the same boat as you! (Although I've been blaming my laziness on my anxiety from waiting to hear back from vet schools but now that I'm accepted I know I need to kick my butt into gear 🙂 ) congrats and good luck!
 
So we had our TNR program today, and it was absolutely amazing!

So I singlehandedly rounded on ~120 kitties when the rest of my team bailed because 3 of them heard there's was food and was hungry, and two of their shifts were over. Meanwhile I I caught two active hemorrhages and no kitties died!

And it got to the point before that when we got SUPER swamped and my supervisor was just gone. So I just started directing people who had just gotten there- 3 pre-vets (not me) were running around like chickens with their heads chopped off because they didn't have supervision and I was able to successfully direct and supervise recovery. It got to the point where they were asking me questions about whether or not cats were trashing enough to go to the quiet room.

Do you ever see someone doing something pre-vet related and think "you know... that person's gonna be a really good vet one day"? I've never had that moment for me today until today. I was calm and collected- despite being swamped and the situation being insane. Now, I could see myself doing this for the rest of my life.:biglove:

Haha right.... I pretty much told my current roommate a year ago that I'll do anything for her to stay with me. She is so tidy and so nice that I feel morally obligated to be mostly tidy in common areas and keep the insane mess to my bedroom.... she makes me a better human.... #notashamed

Yeah, my room goes down hill on between tests. Lol. I clean/do laundry/etc once every four weeks. But I clean up in the common areas. This weekend will be purging the kitchen of all her open container food she's left behind, and cleaning it till you could eat off the floor.

If you were at recovery, then I'm sure we ran into each as I was at the medicine's station! Glad you had those kitties under control! Though sorry your team bailed on you. It's not even like the clinic went late.

It was a really quick one, very nice! (How funny that we probably ran into each other- I was wearing purple scrubs bottoms haha) But I had a great time, despite the team bailing. I felt like I handled the situation really really well!!
