Hahaha unfortunately I come with some baggage named boyfriend :laugh: He's going to try and transfer his physics degree credits into the BEd program! I may bug you for life advice about living there in the new year though!

A girl at my dog club has a couple Tollers and the only reason I was at all familiar with the breed was because of SDN lol.
 
This dude has been so good lately, both in training/sports and in life. Look at those wild long and fuzzy ears in this picture from a month or so ago....he let me pluck them by hand over the last few days and he's always been a really touch sensitive type so it was a huge step that he let me do that, without food/coercion. He ALMOST seemed to enjoy it...

While cleaning the basement, I found my diploma and a couple awards from vet school, as well as the frames my husband bought me to put them in when I graduated. So 4.5 years later, I finally put them in their frames. I guess it’s official now! Maybe in another 4.5 years I’ll hang them on the wall... :laugh:

I just got mine done too. I left them at my parents’ house for years but now that I have a ‘real’ job we went ahead and got custom frames for everything to match. So far I only have my vet diploma and residency certificate on the wall in my office, the intern certificate, UG diploma, and AA diploma have to wait until I get facilities to drill me new holes someday.
 
I was offered a summer job in West Virginia working at a veterinary hospital (mainly as a vet assistant but maybe some tech stuff too). Free room and board goes with it from what I understand. They said they will have a recent vet school grad from Kansas State, a third year from Purdue, and a second year from Virginia Tech there too so I should be able to learn a lot. I've asked for a little more information and have one more internship I've applied for but I think this one sounds really good. I would get to see a part of the country I have never been to!

Now just waiting to hear from KSU this week!! I can't believe vet school is so close (I hope).

Where in WV? (where I’m from!).
 
I did my first rabbit neuter and dog cystotomy today and they both went well. I had to go back in once with the cysto to retrieve two small stones that I missed, but not bad overall. I was supposed to do my first cysto on a guinea pig a few weeks ago, but I ended up doing a urethrotomy instead and she's doing awesome.

Good work! Cystotomies are my favorite surgery 🙂 I have one pig patient that needs the urethrotomy but owner is crazy and won’t go for it, boo.
 
I got a position working for the research colony at school! It’s not well paid of course but it’s some good experience and I’ll make enough to pay for lunch (or beer). At a time when I felt like everyone was doing stuff except for me, I’m glad this worked out.

Tell Patty I say hi! Love on all the colony animals for me too. I’m not sure who is still there from when I worked there. The people are all really awesome. It’s a pretty good gig.

Will do! I’m so excited. She’s the nicest. During my interview it came up that my vet/mentor who was V’04 worked in the colony (I didn’t name drop I swear) and it turns out she knew him really well and was at his wedding. And she was like “well I guess we have to hire you since [doctor’s name] says so!”

Is the piggy blocked?! Honestly, I adopted this one because the owner couldn’t afford it and was going to euthanize her. She’s so sweet, I couldn’t do it, so now I have a guinea pig. Next week we are going to try to flank spay her. It sounds easy enough.

No(t yet). But it’s an impressively large stone wedged in there, poor girl.

It’s a pretty impressive stone at almost 2cm long.

I'm currently between two fields, both of which will do far more for me professionally and especially financially than my generic-o BS in biology ever could, and since it's the same undergrad school I attended before, my general education credits transferring is a complete non-issue. With it being among the cheapest 4-year institutions in the state, it shouldn't add more than maybe $10k-12k total to my debtload when all is said and done. I guess I should remind myself that I'd still come out far better than I would have had I finished vet school.

I've been ranting a lot lately, but today I have a rave. Even though I was forcefully reminded today (again) that my brain has a long way to go before it's healed, not so for my fractured patella. I just took off the brace for the night, and this time it gets to stay off!
 
I've been having a blast at the welfare assessment this year, and the social tonight was awesome. I talked to a gal that is considering opening a welfare residency and going into welfare as a veterinarian in just so low key tempting that it's becoming a serious consideration. It's one of the few things I've been drawn to all of vet school. I've got her name and will be getting her card tomorrow. Mr. Bats and I are talking about future shenanigans next week, so this will have to be a part of the discussion. But it sounds so cool!!!

The "what if?" game is hard to get out of. Just remember you can take a semester off if your mental health starts to suffer - no one ever said you have to do a degree all in one go! Going back to school is something you've been thinking about and planning for a while now. You're not jumping in blindly. It's hard to know how it will turn out, but I'm excited for you and I'm optimistic that it'll be a good decision! You got this.
