Late to the party but I also rode a green Kawasaki ninja in vet school (sold it when we moved for residency and then started popping out kids so no more motorcycles for me but...)
Solution: get a tiny motorcycle for the kiddos as well 😎

my dad used to ride this gorgeous kawasaki when we still lived in greece. my mom hatedddd when i would ask my dad for rides home on it, but it was such a pretty bike. i googled it based off of my little 8-year-old memory. and i believe it may be this 2010 model? regardless, i told him a few months ago after moving to colorado i want to get a bike and he was ecstatic haha

Gorgeous! I'm biased but IMO pre-2014 kawasaki was prime. 90's was truly the coolest imo but sadly they are carbureted and hard to maintain

I biked outside for the first time in over a year today and it was AMAZING!! Absolutely beautiful weather, got to see some wildlife, and biked 34 miles in 2.5 hours and felt great the whole time!

Did have one near miss with a car, but thankfully the idiot who was driving on the wrong side of the road had his window down so he could hear me yelling at him to watch out and swerved out of the way. A few years ago I would have had a complete meltdown/panic attack, but today I just grumbled to myself and then moved on with my ride! I’m so freaking proud of myself!!!

Facility AAALAC inspection is today and inspectors came into my rat room in the vivarium while loading my rat. They asked me some questions about the research we do etc, and I felt smart answering him haha like yay I do know things! Our veterinarian gave me a high 5 as they were leaving 🤩 hopefully the rest of the inspection goes well! At least I did my part this morning lol

Yall I went to an accepted students day on Saturday and OH MY GOSH. It was at UGA, and I’ve already toured their campus once last year, but walking through their teaching hospital (which is amazing!!!) and switching from the “oh it would be really cool to be able to come here one day” mindset to “I made it, I’m gonna be here in a few months” is INSANE. Im so excited to start in the fall🥹

Not inspections, "site visits" and not inspectors but "site visitors" (they can get salty if you call it an inspection since they are not a regulatory body) (no one who isn't a lab animal vet will know or care about this stupid terminology but I got it drilled into me during residency and thus must force this knowledge onto the rest of you)

Eek sorry haha

Ha sorry, I made the blunder my first year of residency and was hounded for the next 2 years about it. Now I feel compelled to correct it whenever and wherever I see/hear it.

I'm glad your visit went well! It's always nice for the visitors when people are actively working (vs hiding) so they can see how things actually operate 🙂

Literally!!! My coworker was freaking out and I’m like they’re nice people and if you’re doing good science there is nothing to hide don’t be weird lol

Plumbing and electrical rough-in on the house is done! There’s a little more prep work to do with the rebar in the slab, but we’re just a day or two from pouring the concrete for the foundation. After being in the planning phase for so long, it’s crazy to see things taking shape so quickly.

And writing those checks to pay for everything only hurts a little.

2067 total heated/cooled square feet, 3343 sq ft under roof if you include the patios and 2 car garage. That photo is looking towards the master bathroom.

These online plans were the initial inspiration but then my architect made some changes to make it more custom and add some additional touches for the dogs, like a dog wash in the laundry room, scrapping the powder room to make it a kennel area for the dogs, etc. No bonus room to cut costs. We also changed up the appearance of the peak on the front quite a bit.

I’ll send you the actual plans if you want to see (message me!), but I’m not supposed to post them publically online since it’s the architects work or something.

Als happy to answer whatever questions people have about building now or in the future, haha. I’ve gotta pay it forward after I bugged @twelvetigers for so much advice several times before committing to building.

ughhhh my dream house! I'm such a sucker for a big front porch, even moreso if it's a wrap around. I think I belong somewhere in semi-rural Georgia with my dream-house goals lol

I ended up removing the little wraparound areas to save money. In some ways I hated to do that, but I had to make a few concessions when the initial quote was 100k higher than where I wanted to be, and it’s still like a 30x8 ft front porch. I also skipped the fireplace to save money, since I don’t use the fireplace I have now.

found a dental practice not too far from me that will let me shadow for a bit before I move for school! I figured out recently that I am really interested in dentistry (possibly specializing) so I am really excited to hang with them

For all you plant parents out there, can I get your resources on care? Once the library is all done, I'm going to get more serious!
I'm ngl despite the fact that my orchids are 5 and 6 years old, respectively, I constantly wonder how they have survived

What are you planning to grow? I used to have a thriving garden when Zenge and I still lived in our house, we'd grow tomatoes and herbs from seed every year :heckyeah:

An eclectic collection of indoor plants and a food garden in the front yard.

I keep thinking about getting myself a hydroponic setup because I really miss having homegrown things (especially basil) and our current apartment is great but not very conducive to growing things... but then I remember that I'm poor and don't buy myself a hydroponic setup.

I recently obtained two houseplant babies from my grandfathers funeral. I am not a plant person but I am trying. Both plants currently have a fungus gnat problem which is making me want to make these be outdoor plants, haha. I did just buy a product to treat the gnats so hopefully that fixes that.

When the house is done I’m going to need outdoor plant help. Gotta look nice and also feed my bees. But that’s probably something for next year.

Honestly, r/houseplants and r/plants on Reddit have pretty good basic care guides. I used them when I was first getting into houseplants during high school.

I've got about 70 plants in my collection right now. It's an addiction once you get the hang of how to keep things alive lmaoo

AreoGarden has a good small hydroponics unit for $110 that comes with 6 herb seed pods. Super easy to use and produces a lot of herbs fast. The only problem is that if the plant doesn't regrow, you have to buy new seed pods from them, because it's hard to use your own seeds.

I have two aerogardens that I love! I have flowers in one and tomatoes in the other 🙂 I don’t get a ton off them but it’s really nice for some greenery and my flowers are especially pretty

Welp, gestational hypertension came for me on Friday and I ended up having to go for my c-section that night! We have had a bit of a rough start including a night in the NICU but otherwise we’re doing okay.

Also just wanted to say how proud I am of my dog. We weren’t worried as his favorite hobby is raising kittens, but he’s just been so careful and respectful.

Wild that they literally just send you home with a new human though, lol.

Wow! Congrats and glad the baby is healthy!

Bee update: checked them again today and the ladies are doing an excellent job raising new queens. We counted at least 9 developing queen cells (the elongated peanut-looking things) just on one side of one frame. In another week to 10 days they’ll hatch, the queens will fight it out, and the winner will go on out on her mating flight before coming back to life the rest of her life laying eggs and being pampered.

I also did a test for Varroa mites today, which are the main cause of hive mortality in today’s world. My mite count was 2.5% and because of resistance concern we don’t treat if it’s below 3%. So we’re looking good on all fronts.

And in other Rave news, my house slab is officially poured! We’ve gotta take a little pause to wait on the framers, but this feels like big progress.

Since we’re talking houses and plants… our new house is under contract and has space for a garden after years of apartment living! Me and my partner met working at our school garden so we’re super excited.
