hi
I had a quick question, I used to be in medical school in USA and half-way through, I was in a accident-->coma-->lots of rehab/surgeries, it's been ~5 years since I was in medical school now and my medical school said I have to re-apply, take MCATS, all that stuff

I need some letters of recommendation attributing to how intelligent I am among other attributes I posses.
Besides teachers I've had since the injury, I was thinking that I would ask some of my old friends, who are now MDs to write me a few letters

what do you think of this idea?

If they can attest to your capability and can write you strong letters, I don't see why not. They'll end up being the icing, the cake being your academic letters.

Good luck! :luck:

Your biggest problem is going to be documentation that you have the abilities (both physical and scholarly) to get through a medical curriculum. Anyone that can write a strong letter that attests to your capabilities will be an asset for you.

In your case, make sure that they address your physical capabilities as your MCAT score/course grades can document your scholarship abilities. Letters that say that you are good and hard working person are going to be less strong in your special case. If you have former classmates that can document your physical abilities and lack of significant problems then you are golden.

I think that this is a very good idea. Your story is also very impressive. If I were you I would talk about it in the personal statement section of the AMCAS application. Your story would say a lot about your motivation to become a doctor...
