hey guys -

wanting to apply this cycle. Taking the DAT early July.

Question:

I was planning to spend 6 weeks (May to June) re-taking Biochemistry. First time around I got a C (due to circumstances beyond my control, which I'll probably write a letter addressing).

Would retaking this course be worth it? I'd have to balance studying for the DAT in this time if I decide to.

GPA: 3.7
Sci: 3.6
BCP: 3.28 - 3.3 ish

In my opinion, you don't neccesarily have to retake Biochemistry since you got a C (minimum grade required for most dental schools).
Besides, your c/sGPA is already good, and a great DAT score would highly supplement that. Forget the class and study for the DAT.

With that said, one class isn't that bad. I'm sure diligent student can have plenty of time to manage both the class and study for the DAT.
That's just me though, but everyone is different.

P.S. Is that your only C or something? Because I personally wouldn't write a letter addressing your C in Biochemistry. Looks like a cheap excuse to me, and I certainly wouldn't want to waste space in my PS that could have been for something great otherwise.

Best of luck~

I think it is waste of time retaking Biochem. You can spend that time studying for DAT and scoring 20+. You GPA is high and that C in biochem will not hurt you.

Don't retake Biochemistry. I double majored in Biochemistry and Philosophy for my undergrad. Biochemistry 1 (Lec) was the only class I had a C. I did better in the lab portion and got an A in Biochemistry 2. You will receive interviews/acceptances. It's okay to have 1-3 grades of C. If the interviewer asks about it, which I doubt, then just honestly answer to your best ability.
