I am retaking DAT just so I can improve my reading score. I got 14 during my last DAT. For Practice today I took Crack DAT reading Test 1 and I got 16. Last year on the same Test1 I got 15. Need Some Advice......

I try look at the first 8 question and then start reading passage. It took me 27min to finished first Paragraph and for Second Paragraph I just read passage and try to answer question and For the third paragraph i only had 13 min so just read question and try to find answer with out reading paragraph since don't have time. How can I Improve...........

Hey there,

I haven't taken the DAT yet, so I don't know how helpful by advice is, but for me, I try to think like the test maker. I divide up the passage (in my head) into parts: this first paragraph is talking about types of agriculture, and the next is talking about growing corn, and the third is talking about problems that arise when trying to grow corn, while the fourth is talking about how to tell when your corn isn't growing properly. Does that make sense?

And also, I read the question first. If number 1 is asking a specific question, I will start from the 1st paragraph and continue to read through keeping that question in my mind. If it's there as I read it, I answer it, click next, read the second question, and continue reading where I left off. If I already read the answer, I answer it. If I haven't, I read on, until I find the answer.

At that point, you should have read the entire passage by around 5 - 6 questions in. You can then click next and answer by searching for the correct answer based on your "road map" of which paragraph is talking about what in your head, or if it's a tone/inference question, answer it based on that as well.

Hope this helps!! 🙂

I use a similar method as ballyhoo and it worked great on my DAT yesterday. I also make numbers from 1-20 on my sheet during the break and made one word summaries of each paragraph in each passage as I went on.
