Hi everyone,
I've been considering getting an MPH in the past few months. I'm really interested in epidemiology, and especially in the MPH/nutrition program at Tufts. I want to get an opinion on my background, since I consider myself to be somewhat of a career-changer, and to find out what I can do to boost my application.
GRE: 1470 (from fall 2008)
GPA: 3.67 cumulative
Major: Anthropology. I was an art history/archaeology student .... I did take four semesters of chemistry (gen chem and orgo) and I am taking intro biology this year at a local university. I didn't take any math classes in college (I was given credit for my AP Calc scores from high school).
I will be starting a new job as a clinical research coordinator. The position is funded for only one year (very small possibility that it will be extended beyond that) and I will be working at a major hospital and school of public health. I also have been volunteering at a hospital for roughly 9 months.
Do I even have a chance, given that my undergrad coursework was not health-related at all? Could I apply this fall, or should I take more classes and apply next fall? Personally, I would rather wait, but I also don't know if I have the energy to go through another job search when my research job comes to an end.
Thanks!
QC
