Really freaked out now-just took the prenaplex and barely passed!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just took the prenaplex and scored a 78 (range of 62-99). Yikes! I am taking the Naplex in a week. Should I reschedule? I carefully read and answered the questions in the APhA book. I have been reviewing it for over a month now. I haven't looked at the online APhA questions yet, as I am not sure how to access them. I'm really really scared now though. I did the calculations in the APhA book, but I'm not sure if I did them correctly on the Pre-Naplex. Are there any other books I should study? What should I do in the next week to ensure I pass this thing? Sorry if I'm rambling. I'm just in panic mode about now. Thank you for your advice!!

Don't freak out. Identify the area that you are weak in, and focus your study on these few subjects. There is no way to carpet bomb all the topics and retain 4 years worth of stuff in a week or month. So don't waste time to re-study the minutia of stuff that you are already got 80-90% down, wasting days there for 1-2 more right isn't going to make a difference. Spend the time on subjects that you are hitting 20-30%, a few hours there, getting them up to 60-70% right will give you the biggest return on score.

I agree with what Xiphoid said. Do not panic or freak out! I took the naplex 2 weeks ago and my advice would be to make sure you know math 100% (do not forget statistics). I literally had around 35 or more math questions on my naplex. I personally thought the pre-naplex was easier than the actual naplex, but I scored at the very high end of my pre-naplex range on the real exam. For the most part the naplex covers BASIC pharmacy knowledge. On many of the questions you can eliminate all of the wrong answers easily -- they are not trying to trick you (unlike the law exam... but that's a different topic). Good luck studying!

1.) Don't freak out.
2.) Don't reschedule.
3.) Realize that you did more than just "barely" pass.
4.) Remember what they call the person who graduates last in your class-- Pharm. D.
5.) Remember what they call everyone who scores the lowest score possible and passes the exam-- R.Ph.
6.) Remember that your employer will not ask what you made on the exam.

Try this to put it in perspective. When you passed your drivers' license test, you met the minimum necessary standard to be a licensed driver in your state. Think of the pharmacy exam in the same way. When you pass the board exam, you meet the minimum necessary standards to be a pharmacist. You shouldn't pressure yourself to know every detail and every nuance about everything. You will gain knowledge as you gain experience.

Do not review anything the night before. That is pointless and will rattle your confidence. Go to bed early and don't eat anything for supper that might give you "problems" the next day-- the night before the exam ain't the night to pig out at Taco Bell. 😱

Also, be prepared. You WILL come out of the exam thinking you failed it. I thought that and everyone I've talked to has thought that. Don't let that feeling rattle you.

Don't buy into the "thick envelopes are good, thin envelopes are bad" when you get something back in the mail from your board. My notification of passing was a single sheet of paper inside a standard envelope, so of course I automatically thought I failed.

Above all, RELAX. What's the WORST that could happen? You don't pass and have to take it over again? Even if that unlikely event were the case, the sun will still come up in the morning . It wouldn't be the end of the world.

A 78 is a barely passing score on the NAPLEX. You need a 75. Focus on the basics and on calculations. NAPLEX is a basic competency exam, not a challenge exam.

What I should have said is that "barely passing" = "passing." Don't freak out about the "barely" part. All you have to do is pass the real thing *once.*

Find the math worksheet on this forum! That is the closest thing to the NAPLEX math questions that I've come across.

And don't worry too much. I didn't take the Pre-NAPLEX and didn't do so well on the APhA or NAPLEX book practice questions the first time through and I still passed, even though I was sure I failed.

Slightly off topic, but I felt the NAPLEX was much easier than the MCAT.

I don't know how indicative the KAPLAN PreNAPLEX test is of the actual exam (just took today) and got a 129/185 or about a 70% on the exam without prior review. Does KAPLAN correlate well with your actual exam scores on the test? I thought it was pretty easy overall despite not studying for it. The proctors told me that 46-50% is usually pretty good at this point in the game.

From my own experience concerning the MCAT, there is definitely a different emphasis as someone pointed out. I'm not sure if you can directly compare them because they test different functions. I feel the PreNAPLEX (which may not be indicative) was more memorization than anything else as compared to MCAT which was more application to see whether or not you can apply knowledge. Just my two cents.

I got a 99 on the pre-NAPLEX last year (before rotations). I didn't study much during rotations, just paid attention on rotations, etc. Had a baby right before graduation, and didn't study much because of that. My NAPLEX date was about 10 days after graduation. Took a Kaplan (paper) practice test a few days before the exam and scored around 80%. My NAPLEX score was 119.

I'm quite ignorant here, but... you only need 75/185 to pass? Seems a bit too simple. Am I missing something here?

The questions aren't weighted equally.

But you should look at pass rates- it really isn't that hard if you're well prepared (which could be from school and rotations or it could be from studying, depends on the person and the school).

The scoring is kind of a mystery. I really think that paying attention in school and taking strong rotations should be enough for a lot of people. The test is pretty straightforward.

Kind of wish that I didn't choose 2 oncology rotations now. I think ID would've given me a broader base but oh wells.

Can anyone let me know if passNaplex now was helpful in studying for the Naplex?

I took the pre-Naplex today after going through the RX Prep book. I got an 89.
I am kinda disappointed. I have scheduled to take my exam next week and now I'm not sure if Im ready.
What do you guys think? Should I reschedule?

Re-read what others have posted above..the NAPLEX is easy. People who fail teh exam, barring any extenuating circumstances, should not be pharmacists, period. Its a minimum competency exam.

I also thought Naplex was super super easy! much easier than MCAT, USMLE 1, 2, 3!
