I have a friend who was saying that her friends professor that teaches at VCU told the students that if they applied for VCU once and did not get accepted into their pre-health or higher education program, that the admissions council will most like not even look at your reapplication the second time around.

Does anyone know if this is usually the case with dpt programs at other schools too? I am just wondering because I am going to try as much as possible to get in the first time around obviously, but I am worried if this is true because my grades in freshmen and sophomore year were not very good. My plan was that if I do not get accepted into any of the schools I apply for that I would try to improve my stats even more and then reapply to the same schools a year after that. I guess I just worry that if this is true, I feel like I would be wasting money and time to get into the dpt program at the same schools if they probably won't even look at my reapplication.

Has anyone been accepted to a dpt program that they had already applied for before but was rejected or waitlisted the first time around? Thanks.

I was accepted to UW-Madison this cycle, but was rejected last year. In talking with their admissions advisor, I was told that a much higher percentage of second time applicants are accepted versus first time. Their program actually encourages potential applicants to take a year off to gain experience. Granted, this is only one example but I would doubt that any respectable program would simply discard your application if you were a very qualified applicant.

I also had low grades my freshman year while recovering from post-concussion syndrome, so I know the feeling of having to overcome bad grades. If you don't get in the first time around I would recommend improving your stats while beefing up your PT related experience. I spent the past year after my rejection working full-time in the PT field and I significantly raised my GRE score. As long as you improve yourself as an applicant while gaining useful experience, I doubt an admissions committee would look at it as a negative. To me it shows dedication and that you are serious about becoming a PT.

I specifically asked this question at a UIC pre-PT advising session and they said that being a re-applicant is fine. You have the same chances as anyone else.
