at least you know what it's like to work in your ER. I won't be seeing mine until the end of the year! 🙁

The end of the year? That's tough. They started all the EM1's out in the ED this month, but we're working a limited schedule in addition to a bunch of lectures and such. Its a good way to start, tonight was just really tough. Even my upper level said it was the worst shift she'd ever worked.

I can't get used to that one either. I feel like I'm lying every time I say it.

tee-hee, when someone asks to speak to "the doctor", and I have to say, "this is Dr. Hard24get", or, "Hi, I'm Dr. Hard24get" I feel like any second that woman from Princess Bride is going to bust in and accuse me of being a fraud! :scared:

this woman is like the personification of self doubt :

tough as in great cases, though, right?

This will now be all I see whenever I introduce myself as dr. to a patient. I'm going to be waiting for her to pop out from behind the door or something.

Well the upper level and attending were coding a guy for literally 4 hours. He came in just resp. distress and the were going to let me intubate, and then all the sudden his pressure is like 40/20 and I get bumped. The guys proceeds to drop his pressure and lose a pulse >5 times (I lost track) over the next 4 hours, but comes right back every time with epi. Still don't know what the hell was wrong with him. Meanwhile I go back to a bunch of really pissed patients trying to figure out what the hell to do for any of them, and talking to consultants for admissions and such, looking like an idiot because I don't really know whats going on because this is the second shift I've worked ever.

hmmm, strange! Did he make it to the ICU or die?

I am post call today and slept WAY too long. It's my golden weekend! 😀, though part of me is afraid I will forget all of medicine being gone so long!

Made it to the ICU. Maybe we should have consulted miracle max. It was strange though. Young guy, with no medical hx, had a fall from a ladder 4 days prior. Never got any other info on him.

i love mysteries. update me when you know more. maybe he was being poisoned by his wife :meanie:

i hope my sleep schedule isn't going to be too screwed. I love watching lock-up, and it keeps coming on

criminals are kind of exciting in a funky way, wondering why they rape/kill/hurt people... such an interesting pathology. I like when they come in the ED and like to watch the reality interviews, but I don't want to run into them in a dark alley! :scared:

I kept seeing people in inpatient psych who think they communicate with God. It seems most of those who think they communicate with Satan are in prison for really horrific crimes....

Nice to see you are both surviving (even if barely). I found out I start surgery for my first rotation in September. I'm sure that will be an interesting experience along with a completely lost feeling. Hopefully everything in my medical oddness will be solved by then and I will be on treatment...found out recently in a suture lab I can't suture (muscles wouldn't allow it). BIG problem if that's the case. That's my update for now. Monday a few of you might be getting a PM.

Enjoying the life out here on the east coast.
Today I watched minor league baseball.

Just got back from a trip from hell. My residency had to sent me and another intern 3.5 hours away for our ATLS training before we did trauma first (everyone else gets a 45min drive). We get reimbursed for gas, food, and lodging, but still . . . . Between my fellow intern and I we have two old cars. We picked mine. It is currently in a shop 2.5 hours from me after what was a long saga.😱

In good news I passed ATLS, so I can do trauma in August. Hmmm. Not sure if that is good new. 🙄 Anyways. I'm still alive.

Just got back from a code on an open heart pt...the CT surgeon came back to the hospital and opened up the chest on the floor of the patient's room...wild stuff.

Oh, and this is my first shift as house officer...

Came back to the hospital? If you aren't cracking a chest the minute somebody codes, it's pretty much a useless procedure. I'm guessing it took at least 10 minutes after the person coded before the CT surgeon got to the patient's bedside again.

More than that, from the start it was about 40 minutes until he got there.

He had left the hospital and was most of the way home apparently.

During the code we got pulses back for about a minute, slow and irregular, but they didn't last.

My summer schedule's weird. My 2-week orientation to clinicals is split around an elective. I finished the first half of orientation Friday and started my elective today, only to have the orientation folks scream at me via email. 😱 😡 They had the wrong schedule and thought I had skipped my 2nd half. 🙄

I wouldn't call the program director - they usually have very little to do with the day to day stuff like that. I'd call the program coordinator and ask.

The med stud coordinator is the person is was thinking of, but the sleep deprivation was slurring my words.

Whatever the case, everything is set!

It is never good if you are listening to your mechanic talk about your car and you think, "Hey, this guy is really good at the whole delivering bad news thing. I think he could have taught my class in med school." Not so good news for my car. 😱

Q3 call on trauma really blows...considering I never sit down the entire 30 hour span. (Ninja...I realize that you've done time q2 so I bow to you right now). 2 more weeks and 5 more calls till I'm back in the ED. On a brighter note, finally bought my new car about a week ago.

Ninja...I realize that you've done time q2 so I bow to you right now
Eh, never for more than 2 weeks. I never did a whole month of q3 thankfully. And our census was certainly lower than UH where you are.

I really am enjoying my orientation month thoroughly.

Guess who got her computer back!

And guess who got called "a very interesting case" (not good to hear on the patient side)

And guess who still has no diagnosis

aw man! 🙁 The good thing is, though, in over half of the "very interesting cases" you try everything under the sun to figure it out/fix it and then it just mysteriously goes away on its own after all that, with no one the wiser 😀.

so chances are you'll get better but won't know why 😕

How long do I have to wait to get better then? Any stats on that?

1 test done, 2 tests scheduled, 1 more left to schedule (lots of tests fits)

Got all my big furniture out. Now it's major cleaning time (plus I have to do laundry). Now I remember why I hate moving so much.

wow...lots of new smilies since I last had my computer

:smack::help::troll:😏:banned:

Still need one to represent fatty mcfatty pants though.

We still need a sad Picard doing the palm-to-forehead slap. The current smilie doesn't cut it. :smack: = 👎

I've been actually trying to come up with something, but haven't been able to think yet.

Stupid board scores are taking forever to be released.

Yeah, I've been trying not to think about them. I'm scheduled to recieve them sometime during my vacation, when I'll be back home with family. I don't know if that's a good thing, or a bad thing...:scared:

I ended up getting them about an hour after I posted that. Can't believe they released them close to 5pm on a Friday. I'm not going to complain though. I got the big "P" and that's all I needed to be happy.

I went back and checked again to make sure they didn't change it on me too.

Awesome. Good job. 👍

Trying to decide if I want to pack anything today. Still 10 days before moving and I don't have that much left that I'm not using. I think I just convinced myself to take the day off.

I just made an omelet with eggplant, arugula, tomatoes, cilantro, chicken, and goat cheese. yum! 😍

hehe, I'll steal the new page before doing my hair 😏
