I have a friend that spent nearly 3 weeks in the hospital during his sping semester on his sophmore year. He received 2 F's that semester and 1 'A'. He is now a senior and planning on applying for the next cycle. So he began to retake the classes he received F's in. He will be finishing the last class this semester and plans to make an 'A' in it which I believe he can. I told him that I would see if the University could try to drop that semester so that the F's would not appear on his transcript. He went and talked to someone about it and they say that he could on the conditions that his one 'A' be droppped and that whole semester would become W's. I didn't know what to tell him. What is the best descion?

1) Keep an A and retake 2 F's to replace with a 'A'
2) Accept W's and replace with A's, and lose his one 'A'

All the classes were upper level biology classes and his current GPA is kinda weak. Also at our university replacing a grade actually replaces the grade. They don't simply average. (it's not me so don't get that idea lol)

i would say take all W's and explain what happened in additional information section. I saw this because AADSAS uses all grades, even if the course has been taken again.

Are you serious? Tell your friend to take the W's...One A? Who cares about one A, two F's will hurt him exponentially more than one A could ever help him. Also AADSAS counts both grades like they were two seperate classes. You friend is even lucky he has that option, i cant believe he would even hesitate.

I agree.

take all W's and retake the one class he had an A in. I'm surprised he even had the opportunity to take all W's after the fact.

easy choice

Definitely take the W's. I regret for taking a D in a 5 credit math class. It still haunts me today, so taking an F is pretty major to your GPA.

All Ws without a doubt

Schools would actually prefer this

They would be more likely to accept you because you wouldn't mess up there stats

Of course if you asked them they likely would not reveal it since it is politically incorrect

definitely take the Ws!!!! I got a D in a 4 credit class and a C- in a three credit class and it totally wrecked my gpa

This is the same for the TMDSAS application?? They count all grades even retakes in order to determine GPA.
