I've read past threads on how in depth to study hormones and it seems like it's nothing very specific and I dont need to memroize all the hormones and their origin and type, etc. but I just wanted to check all you recent DAT testers- did you have a lot of hormones or did you wish you had studied them more? I guess I'm just trying to figure out how in depth I need to know hormones....

thank you for your input in advance 🙂

I'm not going to get into specifics, but questions regarding the endocrine system are definitely fair game. FWIW, I memorized most of the important hormones and all that stuff.

I say, if you have doubts....take the time to memorize it. It could be that little bit of memorization that seperates a 19 from a 20. The test can be very unpredictable (especially the bio). Thus, it would be in your best interest to be as well rounded as possible. It doesn't matter if past test takers didn't have endocrine questions...your version might. Nobody can say for sure...but if you're well rounded you'll have nothing to worry about!

Good luck

I did the work to memorize a good bit of this info and it didn't pay off beyond perhaps one simple question. but that is only on for questions that popped up for me. I would have been better off to know a little more about repro than the endocrin system but I completely agree that the next guy might as well know more about ecology than repro. Even with 40 questions I think it is much harder to guess at what areas are going to be well covered on the Bio section. Both chemistries were exactly what I expected and the bio just seemed to be all over the board. I think it could have just as easily played to my strengths although I feel it did not. In fact, 4 or 5 questions in I was wondering if I would ever see a question that seemed to cover something I knew anything about. I used Topscore and Kaplan. If I were retaking and I'm not, I'd throw in an additional source for Bio. Having said all of that, I'm out of school and never took any bio when I was in college (Ok, I did have biochem I). I'm only 2 biology classes into my 12 hours of minimum reqs so that probably has just as much to do with my 18 on Bio as the study materials.

I totally agree with this and what Poc said above. 40 questions on all of Bio, and who knows what you will get and if it will be stuff you are better at or not. The only way to attack that is to cover as many topics as you can. Not necessarily just memorize every little fact, but really try to understand and tie things together. There is no way around it as it is not as seemingly finite as the Chem/Ochem stuff. Some of the things I saw on my test I know I never would have covered. And all of the gazillion last minute details I crammed into my head, not one showed up today. But that was today and that was for me. Those things could show up for you on your test. I had a hormone-type question, albeit a pretty common one. You'd better believe I was glad I knew it though, just one point I didn't have to lose.

If you were to majored in biology, taken every biology class offered at your university (and made A's), and memorized kaplan/destroyer/achiever/topscore/schaum's, they would probably still come up with questions that you had no idea about.

It would be nice if it was even more of a biological *reasoning type test and a little less random. Hopefully that is what they are doing with this "new" dat.

thanks for responding you guys with such good advice! I think I need to stop worrying abuot what is and isn't on it so much and just get myself to sit and go through all of the bio and memorize as much as I can. My practices scores need a lot of work so I know it'll be worth the effort - it's just fitting all that into the next month is what worries me still🙁:scared:. There's so much I want to go through and need to get through before I take the test. Okay back to studying but thanks for the advice 🙂
