Hey everyone,

Does anyone know whether the chemistry section has more calculations or conceptual questions?

Also, do they ask a lot of gas law questions? Periodic table trends?
I've been studying kaplan btw.

Any info will be appreciated.

I would avoid using kaplan exclusively for the PCAT. I studied a bit with kaplan and felt that it didn't help me prepare for the actual exam. The test was more calculations based, in my opinion, which made it more difficult to complete.

Dont use the Kaplan PCAT book, it sucks! Use kaplan MCAT bio sciences book (it has orgo and gen bio in it) then use kaplans physical science book, it has gen chem and just ignore the physics part. Then use the pearson practice tests, that's what i did and got 96 on both bio and chem. I also tried the kaplan pcat and found the questions to be a terrible representation of the PCAT.

Pearson and some people claimed that their Pearson practice tests are similar to the real test. So, ki124, there will be some calculation, but it's easy fraction. You'll figure it out.
Some gas law, rate, equilibrium stuffs will be there, but it'll be more application questions than conceptual questions

I borrow Kaplan from the city library and only study the biology section (so I don't feel like a waste of money). I don't even look at the rest. They have just less than 5 pages of OChem material.

So I'm not the only one who thought the OChem section in the Kaplan review was a bit light... I'm using the Cliffs practice tests to gauge test difficulty. Anyone have any thoughts about the Cliffs practice exams?

The Cliff's tests are a joke. Go with Pearson or Dr. Collins for the Chem section material. You can't go wrong with Pearson for any of it really, but the most recent test was the most difficult for me.

Cliff tests.... haizzz... you can do something with the verbal or reading, i guess.
Biology and Chem questions are so weird. PCAT won't word anything so lengthy like what Cliff does. I even thought some answers were incorrect.
I did a few questions for the Quant. Then when checking for my answers, I found so many typo and wrong explanation. I got mad and I didn't care to touch it since.
