so I only need 2 LORs for the schools im applying to. i gave both my chosen recommenders the forms and whatever they wanted 1st week of october. my boss, got it done last week. but my ochem teacher, my only other option promised me end of october. well, it's nov. 12 and when i emailed him to ask, very politely of course, to see if he'd done it, he wrote back that he'd been swamped but i'm 1 of his top five. since i already emailed him once, would emailing him again just annoy him more? am I jst going to have to sit it out? anyone else had a situation like this before? if so how did you deal with it?

send him a thank you card...so he thinks youre under hte impression that the letter has been sent. hed probablyh feel obligated to write the letter asap

so i called the guy today to see if he had the email for my online recommendation form for UT and he said he is not sure but he is going to look through his emails. he was totally like 'damn, this is such a nousance'. so im jst really annoyed at this point, because this guy's recommendation is the only thing i need to be complete at all my schools. 😡:scared:. it's getting late to ask some other professor i bearly know to write me one and this guy is probably really annoyed with me now to write a really good one (he had no issues when i first asked him, but was always like whatever). so not sure wht to do, i guess i jst wanted to vent and i'll jst c what happens...

Don't worry i'm in the same boat. I actually just submitted my Pharmcas but I'm still waiting on one LOR. Just make sure they know when the deadline is, I would tell them maybe 5 days prior to it that they need to at least send something in.

ye, the thing of it is, like Tech and UT are rolling admissions, meaning the sooner the better and he knows, but ye, jst gotta wait, can't twist their arm

Do LORs have to be electronic? Can it be just a letter?

UT Austin does it exclusively online, which can be good, or in my case bad.

The best thing to do is set a fixed date to meet with the professor who is writing the recommendation. Bring in some notes about yourself. Questions he might ask about you and write out the answers. Sit down with the professor and tell him your specific goals, etc. Then make sure you set a date within 1 week to pick up copies to send to various schools in sealed envelopes. Provide everything to the professor in advance. Usually this guarntees that it gets done in a timely manner, and that it is done well.

ye, we already had the "tell me more about yourself" meeting when i dropped off the forms and told him about the online form. he asked me then when i needed them back by and i told him that since they are rolling admissions, teh sooner the better. he said the earliest would be end of oct. ...i guess i should have agreed on concrete dates, now i know

I didn't want to rush my people, so I told them how much time they had before everything was due (about three months). One of my letter writers was given the paperwork on Friday afternoon. He called me the following Monday morning so that I could pick it up!

The other two, sadly, have me worried about being done in time.

instead of the potential recommendors telling students that they cant/or will not write a lor, why do they say they will and not follow through?

im in a similar situation. my recommendor told me that the letter was sent late october. today, i received an email from the pharmacy program informing me that the letter has not been received. im really frustrated and very close to marching into the professors office and ripping her a new one. i might go about it a different way....i TA one of her classes...so there are easier ways to make things hellish for her.

In general, rejections aren't nice on both ends of the rejection.🙂

Anyway, professors often have schedules that are in flux depending on their research commitments. What may be a free period a week ago may turn unexpectedly ugly.

To the OP, you just really have to provide periodic reminders to your references. Be sure to articulate the deadline when it gets too close. I generally didn't mention the deadline too early as it provided an excuse for delays but they helped for a couple of people who were a little late.
