Hi All,
I haven't reconstituted zoster vaccine yet but I had some questions. According to the drug information, all the diluent is supposed to be removed and and placed in the vial with the zoster. This might be a really stupid question but, how much vaccine is actually in the vial after reconstitution? It says single use vials and that each person is supposed to get 0.65mL. Does the vial contain exactly 0.65mL or is there a little more so we have to measure out 0.65ml?

Pull up the whole amount. Make sure you give appropriate time for it to dissolve. It does take awhile. I noticed rolling the mixed vial like an insulin vials seems to work pretty well to get it to dissolve; if you let it sit and just shake every once in awhile takes 5-10 minutes to dethaw and get the good mixing. Then pull up as much as you can get. Usually I have slightly less than 0.65, if not the full 0.65.

Don't shake it unless you want nice zoster suds forming. Rolling is definitely the way to go. Make sure you administer within 30 minutes or it's ruined.

Hi All,

After mixing, use all mixed liquid.

Also, after wiping alcohol on top of vial, LET ALCOHOL AIR DRY for 30 seconds. You do not want to puncture through LAYER OF LIQUID ALCOHOL and get some alcohol into the vial contents which you will draw out and inject into patient because that alcohol will sting inside and under the skin !

Also, after mixing, to prevent pain for patient: replace needle.

Why?
First syringe+needle was used to puncture the liquid vial and then puncture the powder vial. Meaning: blunted 2 times already.

To prevent pain for patient, only if you have time to do carefully and professionally,
If using insulin syringe which needle is not removable, get new syringe, remove plunger, inject the drew liquid into the body of new syringe, then, inject into patient with new sharp needle.
If using syringe with removable needle, unscrew old needle, throw away old needle, attach new needle, then, inject into patient with new sharp needle.
Again, only if you have time to do carefully and professionally.
