Hi all,

I thought I would start a thread for all the RAAPM fellowship applicants this year. Seems like the ASRA Common Application will make it easier to apply. Which programs are you applying to?

Please no anti-fellowship stuff here.

Happy New Year!

Would also be helpful to list the ACGME accredited ones vs the none ACGME accredited ones.

Why would anyone pick one of the ACGME programs? You're devoting another year of life to training. Might as well be able to work as an attending and make extra money. ACGME accreditation definitely does not benefit applicants in any way whatsoever. Find one of the top programs that still lets you work as an attending/has flexibility.

Well said. Since there’s no separate national “board” or “certification” from the fellowship (which would pretty much require ACGME accreditation), you might as well make the extra money...

Am currently at an ACGME accredited program. Would agree that it likely doesnt matter at all, other than providing the applicant with some confidence that the program is likely well rounded. But as far as applying for a job, i cant imagine it makes any difference at all.

I wish had I had some OR days. I can moonlight in the OR, but thats becoming difficult to justify with orals coming up.

Hi all,

I thought I would start a thread for all the RWTWAY (Residents Wanting To Waste A Year) fellowship applicants this year. Seems like the ASRA Common Application will make it easier to waste your money. Which time and money vampires are you applying to?

Please no coherent thoughts here.

Happy New Year!

Thanks for the insight. That seems like the consensus I hear from others that have done the ACGME programs. Tough to take an entire year away from the OR.

Woohoo. Finally got an offer from my top choice! Rolling admissions make it so much easier. Not having to interview at a crazy number of places you aren't super interested in for fear of not matching.

You should share where and why for those who may look back at this in your shoes a year or two from now.

UCSD. Seems like the top fellowship out there in terms of block volume and complexity. They seem to do way more paravertebrals and catheters than other fellowship programs. You also get to work in the OR and make a not-terrible amount of money with attending call shifts.

Hi all, if any applicants from this current cycle have any questions, please let me know. I don't start fellowship until the summer but might be able to answer questions about applying, programs, etc.

Could we get an idea of interview dates for west coast programs? Do most of the programs only give you like 1 week to accept or decline an offer or more time? Does it matter when you schedule your interview dates?

Doing a regional fellowship and knowing all the fancy blocks is great but when the group and surgeons don't want any of it kinda moot. That being said I have been trialing blocks like pecs, ESP, PENG myself through trial and error, and I'm getting paid attending salary no fellowship 😉

Thanks for offering to share your experience! Any perspective on the timeline for fellowship interviews and offers? I have interviews in February and March and am wondering about how offers work. When did you interview at UCSD?

East Coast interviews tend to be earlier. West Coast interviews tend to be later. UCSD and Stanford both interview in March. From what others have said, programs usually want an answer in a week or two.

I think plenty of applicants get offers early, but then hold out for some of the big programs that interview later in the season.
