Regis University anyone?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Feeling the love 😍 ,had a message when I got home yesterday. I am just stunned! Can't believe that am I going to start pharmacy school in the fall.... me?, seriously?!? I'm still trying to wrap my head around it!

Congrats to us all! :highfive:

:soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

Congrats, Rx by mail!

That makes 4 of us so far (from SDN anyway): myself, Rxism, and thesteve1 are the others.

I see you've been accepted at LECOM-B, have you given any thought to which school you will be attending?

Once the excitement settles...anybody else concerned with the financial aid? Since Regis considers p1 year undergrad that means 7k in fed stafford for 32k tuition? Might not be too excited after all with it being so hard to get loans 🙁

Tell me about it. Its not that much better as an independent student, $12.5K. That first year will hurt. At least I'll finally qualify for a pell grant. 😀

I'll have to see what the entire financial aid package ends up being. I'm fortunate enough to have my current employer pick up some of the tab as well in return for a commitment after graduation.

I'll make it work, it just sucks to be considered an undergraduate for one year.

I'm going to ask Brian to check on the filing status, why do some schools tell you file as a graduate and some as an undergraduate? They are the same loans reguardless of the school. Besides, I am a graduate student (or will be when I graduate in 2 months) filing as an undergrad doesn't make any sense?! 😕

Thanks!!!!

I have about a week to figure out which school I'm going to send a deposit to, the matriculation agreement is due back to LECOM by March 9 - I haven't gotten the info from Regis yet.

There are good points to both programs. For us the things to consider for LECOM were; location near family (and out of snow!), low tuition (only in the low 20's per year, and no extra for the last year of rotations), new facilities (although pharmacy is shoved in the osteopathic and growing pains are evident), I've already completed all prereq's and it's fully accredited.

I really liked the feel of Regis though and although a new program, the University as a whole has a really good reputation - I don't have any concerns about it getting full accreditation. It shows the promise of becoming a truly exeptional program. There are a couple of humanity prereq's that I would likely need to complete prior to matriculation, unless they are able to wave those because I'll already have completed my undergrad degree. Still, over 4 years it is a difference of almost $50,000 in debt - nothing to sneeze at!

In the end it will come down to what works out best for my family. The economy in Denver is much better than on the Gulf Coast right now, and the cost of tuition is a small matter compared to the other factors we need to consider as a family.

It's so incredible to finally just be accepted anywhere that I can't even believe that I get to pick! I think I need to run out and pick up my lotto ticket tonight! LOL

Let us know what he says. I've always wondered why some schools treat you as undergraduates for the 1st year. It would be nice to have access to the extra loan money. That's a difference of ~$21K.

I'm not from Colorado and got no clues of this school until I first knew it thru pharmCAS.
Some said it has a good reputation, but still I'm not sure of going to this unaccredited pharmacy school.
Can anybody give me some positive thoughts about Regis University??

Here's what I know about the school. I know many people in the local area who raved about the quality of the programs and experiences with alumni of the school. They have been around for about a century (although the name was changed many years ago). They already have several graduate programs, including some medical in nature - PT and masters in nursing are the ones I'm familiar with. They are active in the community, they hosted a meeting and joint speech with Pres. Clinton and the Pope in 1993 and our tour guide also talked about a visit from the Dalai Lama but I'm not sure when that might have been.

As far as accreditation, they are already accredited regionally as a University - so they will qualify for federal loans. As far as the risk associated with being a new program and status with the ACPE, you need to decide if you can deal with being in a candidate stutus program - do your own homework and make the best decision for you.

:soexcited:CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED:soexcited::bow:

For those who have been accepted, I was just curious if the Dean contacted you by calling your home number, or the number that you listed on the application as your preferred contact number? I just now got on SDN and saw that people had received acceptance calls and it made me realize that my husband just changed our home phone number and they don't have the current one 🙁!
I thought the interview went well, so Im kinda sad that I haven't heard anything!
Hopefully it was just because they didn't have my updated phone number, I guess I will be calling Monday to find out!

Also, received on my cell phone, but that's the only number I list ever so...the dean left a voicemail as he called while I was at work

anybody else get the letter today? Only 11 days to make the deposit!!! Too bad I already wasted $750 on ND...D'oh!

I didn't receive it today. I should receive it Tues or Wed at the latest.

Thx for the details!!
I'm waiting for the school's letter but haven't gotten one yet.
The person whom I talked to said he's gonna email me as well, but nothing's come yet either.😕
I will check with the school if I don't get the mail by tomorrow.

Hi again!
You should call them to find out your status!!🙂

Sorry, didn't want to alarm anybody or anything...i live in CO so yea, most likely in the next couple days for everybody else.

No worries. I wasn't expecting it until at least today or tomorrow. Brian told me that they mailed on Friday.

I'm currently out of town, and my husband will vacant the house for several days too...
We didn't get the admission letter yet and I'm so afraid I will have to miss the due date!! :scared:
How do they receive the deposit? By check?, or is there any way I can make direct deposit?

You can phone in a credit card payment.

Call 800-388-2366 x4344. The letter says to speak with administrative staff in the office admissions and student operations. Payment is due no later than March 12th.

That sounds pretty easy!
Thank you, cdhoward!!!😀

Does anyone know how many seats have been filled?

I have been told that the number of admission offers is irrelevant because most will decline their seat to attend elsewhere.

Sorry I couldn't be any more specific.

I can say that interviews are scheduled for March 16th and April 20th. There will be 48 applicants per interview day. They also have 2 dates set aside in May for interviews, but they are not sure if they will need to utilize those dates at this moment in time.

I applied and got accepted, I love the school, I'm only worry about the no credation status.

If I had something against them, I would of said something about 5 of the schools in your signature line...plus I graduated from a newer school but it had pre-candidate status when I applied. Getting pre-candidate status is no guarantee. Just ask the students that went to HICP. There's no need to get defensive about my comments...I was just offering my honest opinion. All I am saying is you better be careful...
hey,I got accepted to Regis but I am worry about the credit status, cause i heard from Hawaii college of pharmacy. That's horrible, any advise on how to protect myself from that? I also got accepted to northstate, CA. I am torn and don't know which school to chose, cause both school is not full accredited. Northstate has no financial aid, but regis does. I like regis better. But worry. Any advise?

I don't think it will be too bad.

From the Regis website...

At least you will have time to think about a response before and you will not be spending much time at each station.
It's not bad, it allow the professor to know you better.

I'm curious, what day did you interview at Regis?

Hawaii College of Pharmacy was a stand alone program with no previous history.

The strict policies in place now to become accredited have been put in place because of the Hawaii debacle. As far as the two go, Northstate has precandidate status, so they are the only school of the two that can enroll students at this moment in time. Regis will not know their fate until the June ACPE meeting.

My interview was on Feb. 16. I really wanted to go to Regis, I'm so sick of living in CA. Just want to explore something new, I hope they get pre-candidate status. Do you have an interview for Regis too?

I interviewed on Feb 19th and was accepted on Feb 26th. I hope they receive the pre-candidate status as well since this is the only school to have accepted me so far. After speaking with most of their faculty during my interview, I truly believe they will reach this status at the June ACPE meeting.

Well, I hope to see you there. Cause this is the only school that I like and got accepted. The rest of the school put me on hold.

so being placed on hold, does that mean that you have a slim chance of getting in? The reason why im asking is because one of the schools I interviewed w/ placed me on hold.

As of now, I'll be there. If I end up receiving more than one acceptance, I'll have to give it some serious thought because I really like the Denver area. If you weren't considered an undergraduate for the first year, the decision would be a whole lot easier to make.

There are only a few schools that do a hold post-interview. I would say the odds are not that great because they probably also have an alternate list as well. So, unless they run through all the alternates...

Also, they could be waiting on your Jan PCAT scores or fall semester grades to determine if they wish to accept you or not.

What school is it? It would probably be a good thing to post the same question in your school's thread so that you can communicate with people going through the same thing or know more about the policies in place at that school.

Well, after a week of trying to get ahold of Brian, I'm wondering if I should just give up?

I'll called several times on monday, no answer - finally left a message before I went to work. He callled back tuesday night before I got home and talked to my husband but just said he'd call back in the morning. No call wednesday, so I called him again (no answer) and left another message to call or email the info I need to make an informed choice. Nada. 😕

All I was asking was for clarification of the financial aid info we were given and to check on what prereq's I would still need.

I have been accepted into another program, but the unempolyment rate (announced today) in that area is over 10%!! I hate to add that kind of stress to my husband if we have a better option.

Not getting a call back (or email) after repeated messages is annoying and concerning to me. I'm not sure what I should do from here...?

Yea, if you get place on hold, your chance is small.

What is the different between the alternate list and hold?

Have you try e-mail him? I e-mail him and he replied to me. But for some reason I e-mail him today and did not receive anything.

Really? I feel like with this school it might be a little different because a lot of people who get accepted won't go (By all means, I don't want to offend any of you who want to go here... we just all know that accredidation is a big question).

My first choice of school is LECOM Erie. This is the only school with full accredidation that invite me to an interview. If I get accepted to LECOM Erie, i would go, but they put me on alternate. So I have no choice but go to Regis. It's not a bad school, but praying that they will make it.

Received a phone call last week but was out of town. Called back today and they confirmed my acceptance! Just gotta wait for the letter in the mail.

Does anyone know why we have to put undergrad in our financial aid document?

I have no idea. This is the main reason against Regis that is pushing me toward Wingate. It's nearly $21K difference in Stafford loans.

Well, I called the Regis financial aid people and they said that it's undergrad program, which doesn't make sense. drive me nut.

Really???
No, I e-mail Brian today and he clarify for me. "The Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) is a graduate program. Because students in the Pharm.D. program do not earn an undergraduate degree as part of the program, we are required to designate the first professional year as undergraduate for financial aid purposes and the final three years students are considered graduate for financial aid purposes. This undergraduate/graduate designation is only the case for financial aid and doesn't impact the degree you are awarded."

Has anybody got invited for the next interview yet?

when they contacted me for an interview, they only gave me a three days heads up, and I had to confirm that i was coming the same day. i ultimatley ended up declining due to acceptance at cu denver
