Rejections can happen anytime: before, after interviews. However, unless you really screwed up on your interview, they usually will not send rejection letters until Dec 1. The schools just can't accept anyone before Dec 1.

do schools reject you after your interview but before dec. 1st? like if i interview right now, and they decide to reject me, will they wait till dec. 1st? just wondering, thnx

When they accept you, do they usually send your acceptance in a large letter package or can it be one of those skimpy thin letters?

You never know when you are gonna get the rejection letter. When I applied last year, I had an interview in Baylor. i was at school in utah. Anyways, I didn't get a rejection letter from them until the end of july/beginning of August when I had already moved a month prior to North Carolina for school.

Hey just to let everyone know that heard bad news from Colorado. I went there over summer, and talked to the assistant to the dean of admissions. I told her that I was from California, but had family in Colorado, what were my chances of getting in, and what could I do to stand out since I was out of state. Her response was slightly forlorn, but negative and she told me that to be considered for an interview I needed to have around a 3.8 😱 and atleast 21's on the DAT. I was appauled, With a 3.8 and 21's people could get into a California School

I hope that is not depressing to anyone, but if it was me, I would have wanted to know.

Good Luck to you all, I know you have heard it several times but, The number of rejections doesn't matter as long as you get into one.

i'm guessing that means he got invited to interview and went out and interviewed but was sent a rejection letter a couple weeks later.

Let me clarify this one, I did get denied for the interview and did not go. I should have paid attention more to that question. Sorry for the mix up.

Yes, most likely it is an acceptance letter. Especially when you get a letter anytime before Christmas!! It will be the best Pre-Christmas gift that you can get, well, at least for me it was!

I saw this on the top page of one of the Med School forums under the thread title "Rejecting Rejection Letters" and thought it was fitting for those of us who have gotten one.


Dear ADCOM,

Thank you for taking the time to review my application. I have received your letter of rejection for admissions to the class of 2009 and it has been reviewed. After careful consideration, I have decided that I cannot accept your rejection at this time. Unfortunately, I have received an unusually high number of qualified rejections this year, and I simply cannot accept all of them. Please plan on my attendance at your school next fall.

Rejected from Arizona...seems like Arizona is giving a handful of rejections lately

They don't string people along on waitlists like most other schools do.

For the 54 spots they only accept ~80, so there really isn't even a waitlist for Arizona.

Well this has been the worst week ever for me on many accounts but I just got the bad news from Temple. Not that I really wanted to go to Temple but still, the first rejections hurts a lot. I'm really upset. And what makes me more mad than anything was that they rejected me before I took the DAT again. Ah such a sad day 🙁

rachmsu, a lot of midterms this week? i know this has been the worst week i can remember in a long time as far as three exams and a tough biochem quiz all in 4 days 👎 it seems like every third week is finals week with all my exams on almost the same days.

Yeah I have 3 exams this week, 2 being immunology and genetics. I am just super stressed out and this rejection did not help at all. Plus I am still struggling to find time to study for the DAT which had to be put aside this week. You know, someone asked me a few days ago what I would do if I didn't get in to dental school this year but I just tried to stay positive that I would but maybe now I should figure out a plan 🙁

which immunology are you taking? I took genetics last year too so i know how hard that is. Yeah this is a really tough week, just hang in there for a couple more days. and, i am sure you will get into some dental school, don't start filling out grad school applications yet! 🙂

Nope, no interview at Michigan. I know they are waiting until I retake the DAT and honestly I am just waiting for the rejection letter from them. I live in Ann Arbor and know how hard that school is to get into which sucks when my dentist tells me everyday he wants me to go there. Oh well.

According to their stats listed in the letter, the GPA's were approximately 3.31 cum and 3.29 sci. Their avg DAT scores were in the lower 18's. My DAT scores of 20/20/20 beats their averages, but my GPA stinks compares to the GPA average.

Yea, I'm a f'n ***** though...never learned in college after I got my first C ever and look how pathetic my situation looks now. 🙂 I applied to 22 schools overall to increase my chances of getting in, so hopefully I will conquer dental school somewhere. But God forbid, I hope I didn't have to pay close to 2 g's in app. and testing fees to end up with 22 rejections. Damnit, the next few months are going to suck...

Yeah, your GPA is probably the reason. The lady told me that 20s on DAT were competitive. Sorry to hear the bad news.

It's ok, and yah, CO and the 3 TX's schools were my long shot too. I am still waiting to hear ANYTHING for Houston's. I got secondaries from Baylor and San Antonio a long time ago... But still I know that they will probably be rejection letter's because of out of state status.

It was a nice skinny letter (can't tell the different between a rejection letter), except that they typed everything very neatly on the envelope.

Usually after when the application is mailed out to the schools, the schools respond very promptly, about 3 weeks after they have received your application you should receive a confirmation letter as well as secondaries if they require it.
