I saw a thread similar to this last year. Figured we should have one for this year.
Obviously not a great topic..but......

Sugar72 said:It seems crazy to me that programs are already sending out rejections. I can't really put my finger on why it seems so crazy to me. I didn't think I needed to start worrying about that yet. I guess I wanted to quit worrying about getting all my darn LOR's in before I had to start worrying about rejections!
Idiopathic said:Are people really getting rejected? Or are they getting the "we are reviewing your application" while others are getting interviews? Im not sure that qualifies as rejection.

Damn
Hope the others start to offer.
ordinary guy said:Sorry to hear about your rejection from Rush. It will happen to all at some point in the process I'd guess. When did you submit your application? I hope you don't get anymore of those.
Adessey said:Rejection here from Rush to.
NupeMD2B said:I checked the box that said that I wanted them sent, but I just took Step 2 on 9/2 so could that be it?
kifaru said:Rush via email 🙁
chicamedica said:Hmm, i wonder why Rush is being so picky? 😕 Are they losing accreditation or something? Is the hospital going bankrupt? Seems like too many people here are being rejected for this to be a selectivity issue. I didn't apply there, but it just seems weird. . .I wonder.
Milhouse Van Houten said:that is totally ridiculous. didn't someone say hopkin's range was 215-260? i'm not saying rush is a bad program, but 220 is extremely pretentious.
MD/TX2006 said:northwestern is also 220 (I didn't apply there, but a program coordinator told me)
Idiopathic said:Here is what Hopkins says:
"The Department does not have a cutoff score for consideration of applications. Applications are reviewed in their entirety. However, the Department attracts a competitive group of applicants. Last year, 75% of interviewed candidates had Step 1 scores of 228 or better with a median score of 236. All interviewed candidates had COMLEX Level 1 scores above 570."
I misquoted slightly, but it stands to reason that most interviewed candidated are 210+. That COMLEX score corresponds to a 210, roughly.
hey i'm in the same boat as you. Well i HOPE i do a $hitload better on Step 2.driverabu said:How exactly does that work? Do they have a program that eliminates all applicants with less than a 220 on Step 1 without even considering Step 2 which is even more important than Step 1? That would suck for me because I got a 219 on Step 1 but got a 242 on Step 2. I hope these programs at least consider those circumstances! 😕
Milhouse Van Houten said:but the point is that if hopkins has a cutoff 210, then rush is pretentious to set up a cut off of 220. i feel that anesthesiology residencies are score ******. regardless, thanks for the clarification, idiopathic
Lonestar said:I hate to break the bubble for you guys, but anesthesia is a seller's market nowdays. That means these programs will choose whoever they want. You basically have no say in the matter; so, these programs naturally look at step 1 scores. REMEMBER THIS POINT IN YOUR APPLICATIONS -- YOU NEED THEM MORE THAN THEY NEED YOU. THEY CAN EASILY FIND SOMEONE TO REPLACE YOU. So apply broadly and wisely across the so-called "tiers." Just remember some these "big name" programs have bad work hours for anesthesia, hence their popularity is not so high. No matter how much they try to change, their egos and slave labor camps can always be sighted. If you guys just wanna go into private practice (which i assume most of you do), then mid to low tier may not be that bad. Good luck with your interviews; and don't let the rejections discourage you.
MeaCulpa said:Idiopathic I thought 500 was the average for the comlex
So 500=217?
I scored a 617 on the comlex and that is 90th percentile, and if 570 is less than the 50th percentile (your saying it is 570 comlex = to usmle 210, which is below the 50th percentile) than the 50th to 90th percentiles on the comlex are between 570 and 617 which don't seem right.

Idiopathic said:Im sorry you are right. 500 is the mean, so 570 is ~ +1 SD above the mean (= about 235-240 USMLE)
