The only thing that I disagree with the above posters about is the strength of school point. I go to a mid tier state school and have received all 15 of my interviews and most are at the very top programs. Some of the schools gave out invitations when they had almost nothing but my step one score and knew that I was AOA from the application. My initial application also contained a very strong letter from a world reknowned physician. Who knows what was the biggest draw? But, my med school got me nothing.

Hop Toad - your'e stats are extremely strong and prove the importance of AOA/high step 1 scores. Basically, you had to overcome whatever bias the elite programs have against applicants from "mid-tier" schools, and you clearly did just that. No doubt there are plenty of students from elite schools who have step 1 scores 20-30 points lower than yours and several fewer honors grades who will be joining you for interviews. But if you look at where students at top 10 programs are from, a disproportionate number will be from top 10 med schools, and not necessarily because they are smarter or have better credentials than other applicants.

That's exactly the point. A good barometer of how competitive a program is would be how many of their interns are from med schools that ranks in the same ballpark as that own institution's med school. A corollary of that would be, in order for you to go to (or invited to interview at) an insituttion whose med school ranks above your own med school's ballpark, you will need very good stats and in many cases, AOA status.

In my last interview at Emory (a pretty competitive program), the applicants are basically of two groups: those from top 25 med schools, or those from other schools. The latter group, many of the people are AOA's, where as in the former group, i dont think there are any. In fact, there is this dude from HMS told us straight out that his board scores are below national average. Yet he is invited, alongside those from some lesser known state schools who basically makes it no secret to the whole group that they are AOA's... At the end of the day, I conclude that good med school can give you some leeway in this residency game.

Not a program I was very interested in but not a program I thought was beyond my reach...UC Davis rejection today.

Nothing very positive for what seems like weeks now...🙁

Just curious as to how everyone is doing, Bart. I think this whole process is really interesting. If I were not in the thick of it, I'd find it even more interesting. I know the med school fiasco did not end up the way I would have liked, so I don't put a great deal of stock in getting all the interviews I tried for. Time will tell. 🙂

just spoke with the administrator at U of Chicago, as I am anxiously awaiting their response. She told me that all final decisions will be made by December 5th, and we will be notified by snail mail and ERAS. Hope this helps.
