Hi,

I'm looking for some advice from people who I believe might be able to help. Well the idea was to ask Indian law students, but I thought I'd ask Indian medical students first. I apologise if this is not the correct forum to ask such advice. I don’t have much time in my general lifestyle to seek professional advice or read books.

I am from, and live in the, UK. We have relatives in India. Recently, a relative died. However, I heard from my mum that the very next day after her death, the doctors had removed certain parts such as eyes, kidneys, heart etc. That is all the information I have. I actually knew nothing about this person, and exactly what relation she had to us. Never knew what she looked like, or had never spoken to her. But I couldn't help feel a sense of serious injustice had been done. I'm not aware that this 'relative' had signed documents or had given any verbal permission to offer her body parts after her death, but that will only be clear when I research more into this case. But I need general guidance and knowledge. My question is pretty straightforward: Are doctors' in any parts of India allowed to remove body parts from dead patients without permission? Any information would be really appreciated. My enquiry can be extended to further questions such as what actions can be taken against the doctor/s or hospital, and how can we avoid such a thing in the future? But the crucial one is the first one.
