I cant seem to find ANY information on the requirements for CPht in my state of Washington.

My worry is that I waste ~10k and 11 months on pharm tech training, only to realize that I could have passed the PTCB with a few months of self study and pharmacy experience.

Is there some kind of requirement to prove you have gone through some kind of training, or is it just pass the test and your certified? Are there any other requirements?

Im currently a pre-pharmacy student looking to get my foot in the door and eventually work at a pharmacy as a tech while I attend pharmacy school.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

One question: as a pharmacy student in Washington state, you can work as a pharmacy intern. In fact, I believe you have to in order to become a pharmacist. Why would you want to work as a pharmacy tech while you're in pharmacy school?

I feel your pain....Washington State is impossible to find out information on becoming a tech. You do NOT need to be a pharamcy tech to get accepted into pharamcy school --- just experience which you can get as a volunteer or a pharamcy clerk. In the state of Washington you can work as an intern as soon as you get accepted into a Pharamcy school and you can work as an intern all the way through school. Interns get paid a lot more than techs and have a lot more responsibilities.

However, if you really want to get certified in Washington....heres the deal.
They DONT care about the National PTCB test -- it doesn't mean anything in the state of Washington. Other states will allow you to self study and pass the test and then become a tech, but not Washington.

There are two ways to become a certified tech in the state of Washington -- enroll in a school program or find an on the job training program. Either way you will have to work as a tech trainee to obtain the hours required to become certified. The school route is more expensive and probably longer, but it will arrange the training hours for you. I think your best option is to try to find a pharmacy that has a tech training program (Wal-mart, Target, Walgreens, Bartells). Let them know you are pre-pharm major and want some experience and then go from there.

Again, though you don't have to be a certified tech to get accepted -- any experience will work.

Hope this helps!
