So I've totally ignored the option of residencies, skipped going to midyear, skipped going to information meetings etc... I thought i was going retail for sure.. anyway, plans have changed and now after reading and thinking, a residency would probably be a good idea for me.... the deadlines for applying are about now, the problem is I have no letters of recommendation or anything prepared...also I am an international student (australia). Im graduating from Drake in Iowa in May... is it too late for me to still try this? ... I can get pretty motivated

Some places' deadlines have already passed 😱, and some are at the end of this week and during the next week. You can find some that have deadlines toward the end of January and even February 1, but I'd get right on it if I were you. Or...if you're not limited on where you can geographically go, you can wait for the scramble after March 18 for the places that don't match with anyone.

Many programs participate in the Resident Matching Program (the "Match") through National Matching Services Inc; you still have to apply to your program(s) of interest separately. The website is www.natmatch.com/ashprmp The recommended date by which you should submit the agreement and payment is Jan. 9.

I don't have a number for you to represent "a lot," but there are always programs that don't match. The list will be available to the students who have registered for the match but didn't match themselves after noon EST on March 18. I'm not sure how long after that date and time the information becomes available to people do did not register for the match.

Either way, if you want to do this, you'd better get on the ball. 😉

to be honest, you would be very surprised how many places were not matched.

there were so many programs that i thought were filled and they had open slots nad unmatched. wait for the scramble. i know a lot of people HATE doing the match process nad prefer direct applications.

thanks for the replies.. is there a way to tell which ones weren't matched... do they advertise this later on?
