resume. help! please!

Hello!
I would like to ask for an advice/opinion.
I'm in the process of apllying to qualifying programs in Canada and US.
But: I have about a year of unemployement in Canada, right after I got here. I was told that it is not good at all to have such "blanks" in your resume, and that I should say that I worked "something" at all times, like at least babysitting. I was ready to send it with the "blank"🙄!
Someone please tell me if it is a real problem, and how to deal with it. Can't figure out a soution and I'm kinda' running out of time

don worry just leave it blank if u want to... it happens to everybody, evry international student also has this problem like when i came over i didnt had any social security so hd a blank for 6 months... important is if backed upwith a proper reason when asked for. they did asked me wht did u do in this period i told them since i didnt had any licence or SSn it was just odd jobs and mostly study.
