I know that for the most part C grades should be retaken but my situation right now is that in all of my science classes (A&P I/II, Chem I/II, Bio I, Physics I/II, and microbiology) I recieved solid B's and have A's in all other pre req requirements (stats, pysc, english etc). This puts me at about at about a 3.25- 3.35 pGPA depending on the school. My cum gpa is about a 3.2 and last 60 hours would put me at a 3.5-3.6ish.

With my low cum, I'll be targeting the schools that put more weight in the last 60 hours. I still have the gre's to take in july and plan on getting apps out by august to my target schools. Do I stand a chance to be competitive this cycle with my stats? Or should I prepare to retake some of those B's to try and get an A in them? how many of those should I try to retake? or some tips on what I can do at this point to become competitive? Thank you for any advice!

- observation hours : 2000+ as an aide in a outpatient clinic and 100 in a spinal cord rehab clinic at a hospital

- will have 3 strong LOR's

Have you taken a practice GRE to see where you stand? A great GRE score can help one overcome a GPA that might be slightly lower than a school's average. With that being said, your GPA isn't horrible by any means. If you look through these boards you'll find people that were admitted to schools with lower GPAs. Folks seem to have a couple different ways of applying to schools. As a veteran I tend to use a lot of military metaphors, so bear with me. Some people go with the shotgun approach, where they blast a ton of applications out there and hope for the best (PTCAS publishes a report every year on application trends from the past year and there are people who literally apply to dozens of schools). Other folks use the sniper approach, where they hone in on a few schools that match their needs and also match their "stats." Personally I don't think it would hurt to apply this year as long as you refine your search and set realistic expectations

Thanks for reply, I haven't taken a practice GRE yet but the next two months are going to be dedicated to that. So hopefully I can get a solid score to help my GPA numbers

Instead of viewing your application as "what do I have to do" I think you should be looking into this as "What can I do to make my application stronger" If you have some free time maybe you can take a class or two this summer to bump up that gpa before your apps go out? Can you get another setting in for observations? Worst case you improve your application a little and maybe hear back sooner from someone (outright acceptance vs waitlist). Maybe you'll have something new to talk about in an interview. But you'll feel better about your application which will help during the waiting game of applying to PT school
