According to the guidelines, you have to re-take the whole exam to improve your score(s) if you did not fail a section(s).
Eligibility for Partial Reexamination
Partial reexamination consists of reexamination in some, but not all, examinations in Part I. Effective January 1, 2007, partial reexamination is available only for those candidates who have taken the Part I prior to January 1, 2007 and qualify according to the provisions below.
To participate in a partial reexamination in Part I, the candidate must have partial credit in Part I as of December 31, 2006. A candidate who earns an average score in Part I of 75 or higher but who has one or more scores below 75 is awarded partial credit. Limits on partial credit areas follow.
1. A candidate with partial credit in Part I must apply for and take all examinations on which the candidate has failing scores.
2. A candidate with partial credit is allowed 37 months to pass Part I. If a candidate does not pass Part I within 37 months, the candidate is recorded as a complete failure on Part I.
3. A candidate with partial credit is allowed two reexaminations to pass Part I. If a candidate does not pass Part I after two reexaminations, the candidate is recorded as a complete failure on Part I.
4. A candidate who earned partial credit as a dental student or a former dental student must re-establish eligibility for Part I to be eligible for reexamination. A dentist is not required to re-establish eligibility to be eligible for reexamination.
