Retaking course with mark of C (61%)?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They only see the letter grade, so retaking it is your prerogative. You don't need to retake it, but obviously C doesn't look great. However, I wouldn't retake it if you can't get an A on your 2nd try.

I'm canadian and a 61% is a C-
63% - 66% would be a C
OP what school you at? (Or what's the grading scale you're using)

Im at Western University, our grading scale seems pretty generous from what i've been told. Its harder to pull off an 80% apparently though.

I'm fairly certain I would be able to achieve an A, and the only reason I'd retake it is because its a prerequisite. Would retaking it hurt my chances at all?

Will your school let you retake? In the US, most schools will not let you retake a course where you earned a C.

What? Why would they not? No school I have ever been to was like this.

Are you sure---many schools have retake policies that you have to earn under a C to retake the class, not all, but many

retaking is absolutely no problem at my school, regardless of the mark you have received previously. As long as you graduate with the required credits

to those who have commented or to anyone else who might see this, would it be better to retake this same particular biochem course and improve the mark, or take a different biochem course? (one that i haven't previously taken)

so retake? or earn a new credit in a different course in biochem?

I would take a different course in biochem, either the part 2 or a harder one. If you re-take, most schools will average the two grades and your overall will not move very much. If you take a different course and do well in it, that would be better for your GPA and also show ADCOMs that you can apply yourself despite your previous mark.

I agree with Kayden. Both grades are going to show up on your application so you might as well show an improved grade in a harder class.

Thanks for getting back to me. Did you have to call schools to find out that they take the average of both grades? or did you see this posted on their websites

Thanks for the reply,

Again, they only see your letter grades, but a C doesn't exactly look good, especially if you already have a not-so-hot grade in another pre-req. Your call OP.

@bodmon, I haven't called or emailed specific schools to confirm this. I made this assumption because that's what most others on this forum have said about re-taking courses in the past. It would probs be best to call though just to confirm how they evaluate re-takes.
