Hey folks, so I was a chemistry major in undergrad and I'm looking to apply to DO school in the next few years. A priority is definitely retaking some classes to increase my sGPA, which is around 3.0 right now. Is it foolish to retake genchem II (which I got a C+ in) even though I was a chem major and performed much better in the upper level equivalent of the course (physical chemistry/thermo)? I'm totally willing to retake it if it won't be frowned upon by adcoms.

Also, is it frowned upon to retake courses you got Bs or B-s in? Retaking these will definitely increase my sGPA more but it just seems a bit silly. I'd rather retake courses than just take additional courses since they improve the GPA faster.

I would focus on getting your sGPA up now with your remaining classes. Show an upwards trend which will help out your sGPA and you should be okay. Show you can bounce back!
edit: spelling

I'm finished with classes for now, I have my degree, so there are no 'remaining' classes. I have a 3.0 sgpa but there was def an upward trend with my grades over the four years. Now I'm looking to retake some things at the state school closest to me to boost it.

That is great that you had an upwards trend which that will help. I think the best thing you could do is retake those classes in a some sort of postbac program or maybe go for a masters degree. But I think it would be best for you to retake those classes before you apply to schools. Also if you have not already preform well on the MCAT!
