congrats on the invite! but when exactly did you receive the email about being in the interview pool? i just want to get an idea of when they will most likely make a decision on my file...

i gave those guys a call last week. the adcom meets only ONCE a month for interviews to decide who will get an interview.

i believe the adcom will meet after this wednesday, seomtime in early november (as i was told), to decide for interviews in december,

i really really hope i get an interview.

Sorry about the delay, I had to look it up.
I got the e-mail about the "possible interview pool" on Oct. 4th around noon, and the letter arrived a few days later, but was dated Oct. 5th and posted on the 7th.

ok, thank you. things arent looking too good for me then, bc i also received the email on the same day as you did, but i have not been invited yet 🙁

on another note, is chicago med rising up in terms of reputation? most people look at it as a backup and safety school, but according to the new match list, and from others that have interviewed there, it seems like a great place with bright students and faculty.

You know, I'm not sure I can really answer that one. I applied there basically to have a safety school. I keep getting conflicting messages and info about them. I just checked out US news and world report, and they seem O.K. Definitely not my first pick, but there are worse. I haven't seen the match list,(Can anyone tell me where to find it? I'd be interested in taking a look.) but three things I'vd come across have kinda turned me off about them.

1.) Money. Need I say more. Their average debt for graduates is really high.

2.) North Chicago does not seem to be the most appealing place to live. I'd need to look into it further, but I'd probably end up commuting, something I'd rather not do, because the housing in the area seems pretty dismal and depressing to me. (Refer to realtor.com to check houses on the market there)

3.) If you check on their website, there's a letter sent out to everyone at the school and posted as well, thanking people for the hard work necessary to pull them off of an accrediation probation list. See what I've pasted below.

The following was an email sent by Dean Ross to all University faculty, students, and staff on June 16, 2005.

Dear Friends & Colleagues:

We have been informed by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) that they have voted to remove our probationary status, effective immediately.

They will return in about a year to assess our ongoing progress and accomplishments.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my very most sincere and grateful thanks to the many dedicated people who worked so hard to allow us to realize our goal of meeting the LCME’s accreditation challenge. Special thanks are, of course, due Dr. Welch for his trust & confidence in our team as well as for his unfailing support and enthusiasm for the work.

Please join me in viewing the LCME’s determination as not the end of a journey but, instead, as the point of departure on our road to many fulfilling achievements which will serve as enduring sources of genuine institutional pride.

So, to finish up this really long post, who can tell me anything positive about RFU? I'd really like not just believe all the negatives...

Thanks CoffeeCat! I'm gonna check it out now.

Thanks to both of you!
That is unreal!!! You know, I am definitely more interested in what they will have to say at my interview now.... although, I'm still going to ask why they were on accrediationary probation.

i dont think its such a good idea to ask about the probation during the interview, seeing as how the interviewer is trying to sell the school to you. maybe during the student tour or during lunch or any other informal conversation would be a safer situation.

Thanks jtank, I just re-read what I wrote, and it wasn't clear at all. I'm not going to ask an interviewer about that, but I will sneak it in somewhere during the day, when I feel its most appropriate. Thanks for looking out for me though!! 🙂

Just got the possible interview email, and was wondering if any of the previous posters have gotten an interview out of it.

Woohoo, I just got into the pool too! Has anyone had any luck calling/emailing after you are only in the pool to see if there are any cancellations for interviews? Or have people only done this after they have been offered an interview date?

Thanks! :luck:

hey IDFORME, i checked out your profile, and in response to the UIC "in progress" message, your app is complete, it just hasn't been touched by the screeners yet....how do i know for sure? mine says the same thing, and i called an alum of my undergrad who is on the adcom at UIC rockford, and was told that i should be hearing something by the first of the year....they are BURIED under an unusually large amount of apps this year 🙁 slows everything down!

Good to know. I was definitely expecting to hear from them, and I thought I would have an excellent chance getting an acceptance there. It makes me feel better to know it's not just that they really don't like me or lost my app. (On the other hand, I'm not sure that I like the fact they have SOOO many applicants to choose from for 2006...) Ah well, such is life. I really do appreciate the update, though. Thanks again.

I called and the designated office official (that dude, forgot his name) said I'd be getting an interview later on this year. I got my app flagged for an earlier date if possible. I know medical school is medical school, no matter how you cut it, but this is just Rosalind Franklin. It isnt considered a strong school at all. Sigh. Something is better than nothing though. Just wondering why there is such strong interest here for the school. I'm actually worried about the quality of the school since it just came off probation.

I believe the whole probation thing has to do with the fact that there is no teaching hospital associated with the school, like that of Loyola, Rush, UIC, Northwestern.... the RFUMS students do their 3rd and 4th year in Chicago at various hospitals, but with a match list like that, how can any of this be an issue? In addition, from what I heard in my interview, this whole hospital thing is going to change.... they are working on some really big stuff, and their newly formed contract with the Advocate Healthcare owned hospitals in Chicago such as Bethany, Trinity and Illinois Masonic is only going to further things along!

They don't interview everyone in the possible interview pool. Maybe half or so. They send out invites until April though I think, so there's still time.

I got possible interview sometime in November. So we just wait now? No chance that calling the school and asking for an interview would work?

That is so odd... I would have never thought of calling up a school and being like, "So.... you guys want to interview me? Cuz that'd be cool..." I'm pretty happy about this thread- I just got the "pool email" the other day and was thinking "whoopdie freakin do" but apparently it is a good sign so YAY. Oh, the joy of waiting to find out what your future holds... +pissed+ That's how I feel all the time these days....

From the email:

"Your application has been carefully evaluated and you have passed the
initial screening. While you have not yet been invited to interview,
your application is currently under consideration for interview. Each
year, 1500 to 2000 applications are placed in the status Pending Invitation
to Interview. Historically, approximately 35% of those applicants are
later invited to interview. "

Can someone tell me why they put people through this? Do they want soapy letters of intent or something?

Well, I would be surprised if other schools didn't informally do the same thing. First they make a decision that says, ok, we like your moxy, kid. Then they say, hey, you've got a little more than moxy. Let's see what you're all about. Then, of course, love and you live happily ever after. Or something.
I think RFU is just trying to make the process transparent for their applicants. While it sucks for you, I think it's really nice.
So, for those of you who got this, can you tell me how long it was between being complete and getting the the possible interview pool email? I've been complete since 11.23 and I've had no wet, sloppy, pool love. (Yes, I know I'm late.)

Um, I think it's more of a "We're not going to reject you right away at least" thing than "sloppy pool love".

Some people (the ones that look good in their swimsuits that is 😉 ), got invites only a few days/weeks after being put in the pool. I've been complete there since sometime in September and nothing. And it's awfully cold in Chicago right now for swimming.

I think I may be carrying this pool analogy too far... 😳

Unless we are talking indoor pool here, the only people swimming in Chicago would be members of the polar bear club! It is currently 30 degrees and snowing!

I think the turn around timing for the pool and the invite is different in each case - I am sure it is affected by what is currently going on in their office, the number of apps they are dealing with at the time, etc. Now, we have a holiday to throw in the mix...when does break commence for these adcom's and when do they reconvene? Anyone know?

Rosalind Franklin has GOT to have one of the most jacked up adcom systems around!!!!!!!!!! I applied to them last year, got a laaaaaaaaaaaate interview (May)... went because I'd never been to Chicago and wanted to take a vacation anyway and... guess what??

I'm currently taking finals at Touro-MI and HAVE YET to be rejected by those RF-MF'ers!!!!!!! I mean... it's kind of funny! I could have been accepted and never would have known it, or rejected, or elected Queen of the School. But they'd never tell you about it.

I liked the school, the kids seemed cool, and I might have gone there if accepted. God, however, works in mysterious ways, so here I am in the SF Bay area, with my door open to get some fresh air in here (it's almost 50 degrees and clear). I can't complain.

Best of luck to you guys... just don't rely on RF being straight-up with their info.
