Well... based on what Julie told my interview group last week, don't freak out (my words, not hers) if you don't hear anything tomorrow. She told us that, hopefully, she can make the calls on Wednesday, but it might be Thursday or even Friday. I just wanted to post that in case notifications don't actually go out tomorrow.

Although I'm from Colorado, I chose not to pursue the school. But, I wish all of you and the school the best of luck! Colorado can really use another medical school, and all of you oos people will love Colorado! 🙂

First acceptance. 🙂

To this school?! Congratulations, but I'm so confused! The email I received today made it sound like no acceptances would be going out until tomorrow at the earliest. This is because the dean would not be able to approve the adcom's recommendations until then. Care to share any details?

I think that the dean is the one that calls you. So if you get a call that means she has approved your acceptance.

Got a call last night at 9PM! this is my first acceptance!:soexcited:

Dido, got a call from the Dean who left me a lovely acceptance message!
First acceptance for me as well hopefully they'll keep on coming

Yeah. They called me last night 7:15 rocky moutain time. They just left a nice message about being the first to wish congratulations to us for being accepted. It's so nice to be in somewhere. I hope this helps. If anyone has any more questions let me know. Good luck to everyone.

Congratulations! I received my call from Julie who is the Executive Director of Admissions. Called at about 7:00 pm mountain time on the 29th. Earlier than I expected. But, no complaints here.

BZ141, isn't it a bit early to give up on not getting an interview? I imagine they still have a lot of spots left to dole out.

Good luck to everybody interviewing this week. i'll be arriving to Denver on Thursday afternoon. Rocky Vista, here I come!😍

Has anyone from the second batch of interviewees heard anything yet? Were you supposed to be notified this week?

if i remember right, the admissions committee meets today. then the dean has to meet with the admissions director to agree with their recommendations. there's a chance that will happen today also, in which case she'll call you tonight if you're accepted. however, if the dean isn't available today, then it might be tomorrow or worst case wednesday until you get the call.

so... good luck and keep your phone on this week!

That's right. I called Julie this morning and she said the committee would meet today. Hopefully tonight we will hear. Good luck!

In the last round of interviews, people were notified on 9/29 which was a Tuesday also. I guess it will be today. Probably tonight if the last round is any indication.

nope. no news...........🙁 either I'm not accepted and the pplz who got accepted are to excited to post anything or they haven't called anybody yet. They are torturing us. :scared:

All acceptance calls were made yesterday morning. There was a computer glitch in sending out alternate list notifications via email. The Admissions Office states that the emails will be sent some time today...

Alternate list, I guess that's another way of saying I'm rejected. Or is there still hope???

I don't get it, if they don't wanna accept low MCAT scores applicants, why did they wanna interview us???

I'm wondering the same thing. I was waitlisted as well. I called today and Julie said I even did very well at my interview... Why even offer an interview if they are just going to waitlist you for your MCAT score? She even said it was just one section on the Mcat (ps).
Just think...missing 4 or 5 stupid physics questions on the mcat may be the only thing that separates me from being a doctor. This just doesn't seem right

alternate list is NOT a rejection.

the school has 162 slots to fill. they make more offers than that but they know a lot of people will accept and matriculate elsewhere. when too many people decide to go elsewhere, they start calling people off of the waitlist which as you know is basically a reserve list of qualified applicants. this ensures that they fill each seat in each class with a qualified candidate.

things you can do to become more competitive: shadow, take more classes (and rock them all!), more (but relevant) extracurriculars. make sure you contact the admissions office and keep them updated with each thing that strengthens your application.

have patience and think POSITIVE!!! i personally know a LOT of students who were accepted into medical school off of a waitlist.

Here's the rub though...I'm on the alternate list due to MCAT score. She suggested I retake it (Jan). However, I'm taking such a heavy course load this semester, there is no way I could adequately prepare to take it. I'd basically have a month to prepare. I'm not willing to do that and risk a lower score. Several people have also indicated MCAT as being the disqualifying reason.

For those of you on the alternate list for a low MCAT score, what were your scores? (If you don't mind me asking)

I'm not really sure what RVU's reasoning is behind waitlisting all these people..I was waitlisted here as well but accepted to KCOM and DCOM..so I am not too hurt. I just feel like they are waitlisting a lot of good canidates that are ultimately going other places because they don't want to wait around to see if they get in. If I would have got into RVU right away I would have cancelled all of my other interviews because I liked it that much..but now that I interviewed at KCOM and was accepted there, I realize there are other great schools out there that are willing to accept people out right, without waiting to see if they can find someone better first. It my opinion it is RVU's loss that they are waitlisting all these people..and they really can't afford it only being around for 3 years and all. Good luck to you all and I am sure you will get in somewhere that you will like as much if not better than RVU.

I was waitlisted and here are my stats, MCAT 30N, cumulative gpa 3.53, science gpa 3.34. I called yesterday and talked to Julie and she said my MCAT was fine, my science gpa was a little lower than the people they've accepted so far this year. Also I haven't taken anatomy, which they like their students to have taken. Other than that in the interview I failed to sufficiently answer why I want to be a doctor instead of a physician's assistant or nurse practitioner.

I really liked the school and my husband and I have a lot of family in Colorado so I'm really hoping I eventually get in. I'm going to send in a letter of interest and try to do a better job of explaining why I want to be a doctor vs pa or np. Hopefully that will help out.

wow, your stats are awesome! I think they put u on the waitlist 'cause they thought u might use RVU as ur backup and choose other schools over them.
My MCAT is 23Q, cum GPA: 3.3, sGPA: 3.22 not stellar like yours. I think u'll get in eventually.

I agree. It seems they are being overly conservative and this may hurt them as far as the students they get. I would love to go here, but if May rolls around and still no acceptance, I will withdraw my app because that's when I will need to start committing to other plans.

I was waitlisted due to the interview as well. 3.42 gpa (same sci) and 34M MCAT. They said I seemed disinterested and disengaged, like I didn't really want to go there. I guess that's why I took the time to visit the school before applying, sent in a letter of intent, and faxed an acceptance to another school asking for a favorable decision so I didn't have to send a deposit to a school I would rather not go to compared to RVU. But, yeah, not too interested. Sorry, just venting.

Applying to med school is definitely a strange game. The stories are endless about who did and didn't get accepted, and most of the time it just doesn't make sense.

I think it just comes down to what the admissions committee is looking for that year. Just because 1 school doesn't accept you right away, doesn't mean the other 20 schools won't. It's just a really crappy process. That's just what happens when 2000 qualified applicants apply for 160 seats.

For the few of you who have 30+ MCATs, I noticed your writing scores were very low. That can be another red flag against you, just so you know. And the low volunteer/clinical/shadowing hours are all important, rather than just the numbers.

Anyway, even though some of you don't sound happy with the waiting list, it still says great things about your application. And the waiting list WILL get activity, so stay optimistic, even though being on the fence sucks.

Good luck guys, I hope you all get in somewhere so you don't have to play the dumb med school applying game again.
