I might agree with her but I'm not experienced in this either; I'd say physics isn't a prerequisite for as many typical pre-med classes as bio is.

I guess I could answer your question since I came here and mustered the energy to complain about your silly title.

The way you are wanting to do it is okay, just not how most pre-meds do it. I would suggest going the Bio and Chem freshman year route, for the same reason stated by your adviser. You're going to want to get into your upper-level Bios soon so you can spread them out over several semesters. However you do it is fine, though, as long as you get in your required classes before you apply.
 
If you are a biology major, you should take biology and chemistry and calculus your freshman year, for sure. However, if you are a physics major, I'd probably stick to your original plan.
