SCCP Class of 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am a P2 in Columbia if anyone wants to ask questions.

Kappa Psi is a must join for the guys. The alumni still come around for stuff, and it is nice when you go look for jobs (I got my current intern job due to contacts). Pharmacy is a small world, and never hurts to have a few hundred current pharmacist looking out for you.

I was accepted two years ago.

PCAT 97
GPA 3.8 (4.0 in pre-pharmacy)
Had a BS and Masters in another career field.
Father was alumni and was taking students at P4 students the time (not sure if that helped, but I made sure they knew it)

Wow i must admit you had a perfect score and just your scores/pcat was enough for them to consider you as a candidate.. My pcat is very low, below 50. I just hope they dont base their decision based on this scores alone.

They don't. We had a huge range of PCAT scores in my class. According to some teachers I know that do interviews....6 out of 25 points of the interview score is based on you having your BS degree. Why interview part of the scoring considers this... I don't know.

They look at everything.... PCAT, GPA, prior experience, work experience, degree yes/no, personal statement, interview, letters of rec, and so on.

How long did it take after your interview for the school to notify you that you were accepted?

Hey everyone, I interviewed on January 20 and was accepted February 14 at the MUSC campus. I got a call around noon from the dean of the MUSC campus, and I received an email shortly afterwards.

Good luck to everyone.

Does anyone know if offers go out on the same day for both the USC and MUSC campuses?

I interviewed back in the fall. This is a second career for me. I was a senior litigation paralegal, and then decided to go back to school to learn about something I really loved. My PCAT composite score is a 71, my Pre-Pharm GPA is 3.3, but my cumulative is much lower because it includes coursework from when I was 18, didn't have any clue or direction about college and I transferred to another school without filling out the appropriate drop forms. I have an entire semester of zeros. I think it is sad that a clueless mistake like this continues to haunt me throughout my academic career despite my years of hard work. This is particularly haunting to me daily as I await some word about the direction of my entire career. I have good LOR's though 1. PIC Retail Pharmacist 2. Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist 3. MD, hyperbaric medicine. Good lord, I hope it is enough to get me accepted.

I wish everyone on here the best of luck and promise to post ANY news I hear. Try to have a relaxing weekend!

Wow you have great pcat scores and ur gpa isnt rlly that bad.. Considering your situation i bet they would understand and your letters of recommendation are no doubt impressive.... Lets hope we all hear something soon!

I interviewed in early December. This is a second career I guess you would say. I have a BS and MS. My grad gpa was 3.7 pre-pharm 3.4 pcat 60. I volunteer at a free clinic and I have shadowed an ID and PED ID clinical pharmacist. My LOR's are from my graduate school advisor, a doctor, and a professor that I worked on a publication with and worked in his lab as a research assistant. I don't have experience as a pharm tech so that is a negative and my pcat is pretty low. So I don't know. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Good luck everybody 🙂

It took 3 weeks before I received my acceptance letter- which is actually gold, b/c I know some schools that dont bother to send out any until 3 months after the interview. No they dont send them out the day of either b/c 1) its 4pm, they go home 2) the adcom must meet and decide the applicants.

Not having pharm tech experience makes NO DIFFERENCE on acceptance, 1/2 of my class has never worked in a pharmacy including myself. Our PCAT scores ranges widely, how widely I'm not sure.

I know MUSC was put into an unusual circumstance this year where they had to open another day of interviews b/c of promising applicants. So hopes are high for everyone!

Anyone heard anything back? People started hearing back last week. I'm scared now

Nothing yet. Maybe tomorrow? Prayers and fingers crossed!

I haven't heard anything either, If I don't by next monday I'm gonna get really worried! lol

I haven't heard anything either and I am really worried 🙁 this can't be good! I hope we all hear something good soon:xf: I wonder if anybody has been rejected yet?

I believe not yet since they said they would do that in march. Either way they should let us know quick!

One of my friend got a call back 2 weeks after interview... It's been about a month for me so I guess I didn't get in.. :'(

Wow he/she is lucky. Dont know when we will hear back. When did he/she get a call?

Does anyone remember from orientation about how many are taken off the wait list?

Does anyone remember from orientation about how many are taken off the wait list?

We didn't even talk about the waitlist at the orientation I went to 🙁 so sad a part of me feels like if they were going to reject me I wish they would have done it shortly after my interview rather than making me wait a few months to then just be rejected.

OMG K777 me too. Just tell me my fate so that I can go on with life and focus on my current classes, exams, family, friends, work, etc. But no. I have been clutching my phone close ever since my interview back in November. So depressing...

I had a missed called from a number with an 803 area code during class today. I got really nervous and excited.Turns out it was some sort of marketing call....false alarm lol. This whole waiting game is starting to mess with my nerves. I just wanna know SOMETHING. I hope someone here at least posts some good news soon.

I don't wanna be negative but since i had interview, i will get a letter in march right? But i think it's only gonna be either telling me i got rejected or got on wait list.. 🙁 I thought the probability wasn't bad, 190 out of ~300. I really want to be positive but as time goes and hears many ppl get accepted, its really hard... and stressful 🙁

I have never had an anxiety attach till now. This has been such a long wait. No matter what the outcome, we have to stay positive and make sure that even if we don't get in this year we always can count on the long grueling wait again next year.

I agree with the above comment. We can always wait. It is just hard to stay focused in all classes at this point because this is my number one concern. I also find it hard on myself because most of my close friends are in, but im not 🙁 so ya

today at noon.. hope i can at least be on waiting list :lame:

Do you know of anyone else that got a call after only two weeks? Today was two weeks from my interview too, so now I'm nervous. This wait is killing me! 😱

I hate to be negative but at this point I am just hoping for at least a spot on the waitlist :-( it sounds like a lot of people have been offered acceptances and for Columbia there are only 110 spots! As the last few days of Feburary approaches I feel less and less confident that I will be accepted but there is always next year! I am still hoping for all of us 🙂 my fingers are crossed!!

I don't know anyone else but I think from my friend and ppl on above comments, it usually takes 2-3 wks.. I'm actually jealous of you that your chance of getting call is much higher than me haha good luck!
And thanks yall! I was in depression but yes, there is next year. I may have to study for pcat again for higher scores tho 🙂

I had my interview in November and haven't heard anything back, so I am assuming I didn't get in. I have a 3.989 GPA (made 1 B+ in an english class) and made a 68 on the PCAT without any organic chemistry and only 1 semester of biology. I've been a volunteer at a hospital pharmacy for over a year and have great letters of recommendation. I had a lot of people telling me I would most likely get in, but I guess this year was just really really competitive.

Omg u have perfect gpa and very good pcat.. I would say the same that you will get in.. May be u should ask them to see if they havent forgotten abt u....or may be they forgot to tell u?

^^ I thought about that, but I wouldn't know what to say if I called. I know they're very busy, but I have been wondering if it is possible that they lost something of mine or somehow didn't notify me.

I think it was the class of 2015 thread where i read someone was accepted but not notified. I know it doesnt happen often but it wouldn't hurt to check. I will just wait since i was interviewd like 3 weeks back

Well today makes 3 weeks since my interview. Will I get a call today? Maybe? *crosses fingers* lol. I think the majority of applicants have good gpas, pcat scores, and good letters of recommendation. So Im wondering what exactly they are looking for? Maybe they want someone with 5+ years of experience in a pharmacy. Or did it all come down to the interview and they just hated all of us that have posted here? lol idk. The end of march is rapidly approaching, so I guess we will all know our fates soon enough 🙁

Since February 17th was the last friday for interviews, shouldn't more people be hearing back by now? This is really starting to worry me. Does anyone know what days the Columbia Campus and the MUSC campus meet after a day of interviews the week after? Like do they meet the next Monday after or it is just sometime during that next week? Sorry just getting a little anxious here!! 🙁

How do you know Feb 17 was the last interview day?

How do you know Feb 17 was the last interview day?

They told us that would be the last round of interviews, unless there were some kind of unique reason to have another one. They said that every year, they usually end their rounds of interviews mid-to-late February.

Ah..ok. Thanks for the info.

Did they say when you should find out or when the last offers would go out?

No, they were very discrete. Saying the same things like at least 2 weeks to a month, and then they should be done with initial offers by the end of March. Actual rejection letters will be generated and sent out then and I'm pretty sure they would notify the people that made the wait list around that same time. I guess they should start pulling off the wait list when they start getting commitments and withdrawals from the people who were initially accepted. At least that is how I understood it.

Anyone hear anything different? I would like to hear any information I can get! Waiting is agony.

This is what they said in the update email they sent in late Jan

"The Admissions Committee is continuing to remain on schedule to complete the interviews by mid February.** The Committee hopes to have offers out to all 190 candidates by the end of February if possible.** All applicants will be notified of the admissions decision on or before March 31st."

So I figured they had already made all offers but if they said they will be done with initial offers by the end of march this could be good for us! I don't know anybody that has been wait listed yet.

This wait is awful 🙁

Yea, during our orientation (which was the last day of interviews) they said they still had a little more than half of the spots open right now, so that could be good...i hope!!

Well good luck to all!
