Hello all ,
I am a re-applicant who did not get any interviews this past cycle (completed early Sept). I would really like help with a school list for DO and MD. I spoke to some people on admissions and I was told I did not have any red flags except for a low MCAT. They did not comment on PS (which I am re-writing) nor did they comment on the LOR (Obviously). I feel like I should have gotten at lease some interviews but my clinicals might have been weak last year.
Now for my current stats;

Male, Eastern European White immigrant, federal assistance as a child - NEW YORK
MCAT 509, chem/phys 125, Cars 127, Bio 129, Soc 128
Bio Major 3.6 GPA (sGPA about the same)
EC:
200+ hours in a clinic doing community outreach and working with patients and doctors directly including some public health studies
100+ hours in Emergency Dept.
60+ hours Peds Doc shadowing in a clinic
1000+ hours over 2.5 years in my schools EMS squad.
3.5 years of Research exp in two different labs
---presented 4 posters, 2 of which national conferences
50+ hours woking with kids at a Housing project community center for after school
50+ hours teaching Health Ed workshops at title 1 High schools
~50 hours volunteering on a neurosurgery floor

Exec position on Bio club and EMS squad

Manager at a retail store, worked for 7 years , started as sales person. (worked since age of 16)

Please advice me on a school list or any other information you can share. if @Goro or @LizzyM can help out it would be swell, I know how busy you are. Thank You all in advance during this hectic time =)

If you are a NY resident I suggest applying to these schools:
ALL 4 SUNY's
Albany
New York Medical College
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Penn State
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
GW
Georgetown
Virginia Commonwealth
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Medical College Wisconsin
Rosalind Franklin
Loyola
St.Louis
Creighton
Tulane
any new private schools that may open for 2018 (Seton Hall, Roseman, etc.)
Apply in June and submit all your secondaries by July
It would also be a good idea to apply to 8 or more DO schools and you are competitive for all DO schools. You may need a DO LOR for some schools.

With those stats and ECs I feel like you should have gotten at least 1-2 interviews (a 509 MCAT is the average of matriculation). I would go with the lists given above since I am 100% sure it was your original school list that resulted in you having to reapply. Don't forget to apply to 20+ schools and make sure it's broad.

On your list for this past cycle Columbia, Mount Sinai, Einstein, UCSF and UCLA were reaches. Howard accepts mainly URM. Rutgers accepts very few non residents.

I have similar stats to yours, going into this cycle. How was your re-application? Interviews? Acceptance?
